New user problems with standalone Rhino 2

Hi:
I just purchased Rhino (latest release) It's a really great synthesizer but I am having a glitch I was wondering if you had any ideas about.
When first initializing the program (in standalone mode) and then selecting any patch I get a speeding up of the sound. That's the best way I can describe it. For instance with a patch that has an sequence beat to it - it goes about 2-3 times it's normal rate. Other patches without sequences are also distorted in a weird harmonic way. Seems like something is messed up with the sampling interaction of the program to the audio card.
I can fix it by going into the setup panel and changing the ASIO sampling rate to any other value. It will then play normally until I close down the program and restart it again. It then repeats the same behavior.
I am running an M-Audio Delta 66 card with a Quad Core CPU and 4 GB or RAM. All of my other standalone vsts work fine. I also tried changing to another driver other than ASIO and it does the same thing.
Has anyone seen this before or have any situations on how to fix it? It is very annoying. I guess I will try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if it goes away.
Let me know if you have any thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

Am I the only one on earth to have this problem?
Seems strange that Rhino is the only VST out of about 40 others I have displaying this problem.
Very frustrating. I also have not heard from Big Tick on this. Is there any formal support for this product?

I don't really use the standalone, but I've never encountered such a problem. Is the possible it's due to the sample-rate???

According to your posts, you've only given Big Tick 15 hours so far to respond. How about giving it a little time? They (or he) come to this board periodically...and are generally very helpful.digitaleagle wrote:

Samplerate does sound like a possibility, but the issue seems pretty specific (can't recall this issue from anyone else). Your other 40 vsts may not have this problem, because it's unlikely that these other 40 have stand alone modes since it's not that common. I also have an M-Audio card (not a 66, though) with a 4GB Quadcore system...I haven't noticed this behavior.
If you haven't already, you can send a message through Big Tick's contact page:

Best of luck getting it sorted out.

Thanks for the reply. Actually most of my 40 VST's have standalone modes. NI, FM8, Cakewalk's Rapture, Dimension Pro, True Pianos, Ultra Analog, and Lounge Lizzard, to name a few. I can keep going, but I won't.jsp1979 wrote:According to your posts, you've only given Big Tick 15 hours so far to respond. How about giving it a little time? I've already sent two messages to Big Tick with no response. Actually it has been unusual for me not to get a response within a day from almost every other software vendor I have dealt with.
This doesn't really give me much confidence that I spent my money well.

Well - I'm not disappointed when I have it working. It is a really great sounding synthesizer. I just can't figure out why the sandalone mode vst is acting strange like this. There must be an easy fix.red37 wrote:I cant help you with the issue regarding support for Rhino. But what i can say is, you almost certainly will not regret your purchase.
I'm very picky about my systems configuration. It has been tuned to be a high performance DAW. There is nothing unusual with it and I have no issues with any other program or vst. It seems like a bug of some sort in the standalone version of the vst.
All I did was create a link to the Rhino.exe file out of the Rhino vst folder. There seems to be some abnormal interaction with the sampling rate on start up with the Delta 66 audio driver. Once I change the value upon startup it works fine until I close the program and then re-start it again.
It does not do this when operating under a DAW application. (I use project 5 and Sonar 8.3)
Anyway - thanks for your responses. I guess I found a unique bug.

Interesting....i use SONAR 8.3.1 and have no problems with Rhino at all. Nor in standalone mode. Although i rarely use Rhino that way, if im doing patch designing i more often than not run it through Chainer or VSThost etc..
It does sound like a sample rate/soundcard issue though.
Maybe try a fresh install and run the reg file that boosts Rhino's output. I cant be any more useful than that im afraid! Sorry - i hope you get it sorted out soon in any case.

forgive me for asking the "is it plugged in question," but, are you using the latest version drivers for your soundcard?

Thanks for the responses. Yes I am using the latest M-Audio drivers. I will try to completely uninstall it and reinstall it again and see if that clears it up.TotcProductions wrote:forgive me for asking the "is it plugged in question," but, are you using the latest version drivers for your soundcard?

BTW - I ordered the product on Sunday and tomorrow is Thursday. I still haven't received the official registration code or confirmation of purchase yet. Someone at Big Tick sent me a temporary code. I wonder if that may be causing the problem somehow?
Big Tick - where are you?

Hmm...I don't know then. I don't think the temporary reg code would cause such a problem, althought I suppose it's possible.digitaleagle wrote:Thanks for the responses. As far as customer support/delivery, I know it's frustrating at time, but please be patient. I'm not saying you haven't been already, and you did spend hard earned money so a prompt response is deserved, but biggie's a small developer (lol, that's a strange sentence). I know that he's more than willing to help...and he will...life/circumstance sometimes keeps us small time devs away from our support emails longer than we should be, I know its the same for Big-TIck.
Peace

I did some more experimenting with it this morning. I uninstalled it and re-installed - to no avail. Same problem. I then played with the ASIO settings in the configuration button on the stand-a-lone VST. It seems that when I select 44.100 it is stable. It now works properly when I shut it down and restart it again. If I choose any other sampling rate (I.E. 48, 88.2, 96, etc.) it displays the problem again after it is shut down and restarted. Very strange.
There seems to be some kind of bug in the interface with my Audio card driver.

digitaleagle, sorry for the delay. I was in the US, now I'm back in Europe, need to get all my stuff transferred to this new macbook that is going to be used quite a lot in the next few months. I'll send you the final key file tomorrow night.
