Do you have a link for it, or at least a file name I can google? I've really been after something like that for Reason... cheersdiverdee wrote:Peff released soe form of beat Repeater Combi - think it might be available on his site, or maybe I got it from the props site - can't remember to be honest - but it's complex & it works - stutters beats & all that business.
There are plenty of 'glitchy' combis out there.

I'm a Reason user, so I'm clearly biased, but I love the concept of the closed system. It paradoxaly makes me feel more free. I never have to keep track of plugins and where they store their patches and samples, keeping them updated, trying to find out which one of them is making the system unstable etc. With Reason it's just switch on and go, and obviously Record will be the same thing. I never have to keep an eye on the cpu-meter because the inprint is so low. Never have to worry about adding another synth. And then save to one self contained file, everything is there when you open it the next time, sounding the same, total recall.
Another thing that is not mentioned much is its rock solid midi timing. I'm sure midi and audio will integrate perfect and rock solid in Record. That is absolutely crucial to me, and it's where other DAWs I've tested have had me a bit paranoid and uneasy. Never with Reason. If Record's the same, I'll have it.

Maybe Ot here but does anybody know if the demos on Record are completely done in the program or what? Maybe some mastering elsewhere or not? The demos sound pretty damned good though. Maybe the modeling of the ssl9000-idk but I like it.
edit; Also anyone know what the street price on the duo package they offer? I have a registered reason adapted and don't know where the disk went to.

Expensive, really? As a Reason user (any version 1-4), for 129 euros / 149 bucks you get...ughnonumus wrote:As an owner of Recycle, ReBirth (I bought it), and Reason, I gave Record a quick peruse. It appears to me that it's a rather expensive add-on for Reason...for audio tracks.
- A kickass mixer modelled after SSL 9000K, unlimited # of channels, each strip featuring a 4-band EQ, sidechain compressor, noisegate, inserts, 8 sends, flexible signal chain, automation on all parameters, Reason-style. Considering the best you have in Reason is a 14-channel mixer with only bass and treble, and the fact that a Waves SSL-strip plugin costs something like 700 bucks, that's a steal right there.
- Elastic, samplerate/bitrate "agnostic" audio tracks with one of the best timestretch algorithms in existence and a comping editor on par with Logic's.
- Revamped rack: You can now expand the rack horizontally and organize it any way you want, e.g. one rack for the audio tracks, another for the drum instruments, a third for the synths, etc etc. There's also some new navigation helpers, for example when you click on a sequencer track the corresponding rack device 'blinks', and there's a "scroll to connected device" command on the back so that you can easily follow signal paths.
- Improved MIDI sequencer: audio/MIDI feedback when you click/move events, onscreen keyboard (plus you can use QWERTYUI+23567 to play notes).
- Line 6 guitar amp/cabinet and bass amp/cabinet devices.
- GM-style rompler ("ID8") with loads of bread & butter sounds that can be called up right from the panel without opening the browser.
$149 for all that is nowhere near expensive, it sounds more like a typical educational license price...
I use both Cubase 5 with a bunch of plugins, and Reason, and I like both environments, but I find that whenever I need something done quickly, Reason tends to be my go-to tool. It reminds me of my first home studio back in the 80's -- A Tascam 244, a Juno-2, an RX11, an MSQ100 sequencer (with one MIDI track!) and an SPX90. Obviously a very limited setup, but man, I've never been more creative. I squeezed every last drop out of those suckers and made them do things that were borderline impossible with that kind of rig. About 5 years later I was on an Atari with Cubase and tons of multitimbral rack synths and samplers, and I was like, "meh... where's the challenge now?" Reason's limitations (no audio tracks, no VST, basic sequencer) are actually an asset. In Cubase I always have this sinking and distracting feeling that maybe I'm not doing all that I should be doing, I have a billion possibilities here... so it ends up taking longer to get anything done and I never feel 90% satisfied (I'm saying 90 because 100% satisfaction is a pipe dream). With too many possibilities, it's as if I'm working for the tool instead of the tool working for me. As someone said on the Props' board, "VST plugins are like fishing lures, they're not designed to catch fish, they're designed to catch fishermen".However, this doesn't not imply that some users shouldn't be excited about it. Perhaps, they need to do everything in Reason and want to stay within those confines? It's legitimate. After all, one might be more creative/productive without all of the VST/i variations that continue to mutate. The Reason rack is very fine.
I'm obviously not alone in using Reason as the #1 go-to tool for quick and dirty jobs, I've heard countless commercial and TV show soundtracks with sounds instantly recognizable from the Reason factory soundbank, and I always think to myself when I hear those, "hey, good job bro! I bet you did that in 15 minutes and charged them for a full workday, right?"

Do they really need the VST's in Reason? I'd argue that Props is better off developing the modular combinator, making it even more powerful with more tools to build your own effects and instruments. Seriously there are some things I'd didn't believe could be done in Reason and then someone goes ahead builds a combinator for it. Like Shultz's Triple-X Fader crossfade -- brilliant as a tool for live use.Fidelity wrote:I bet the propellerheads will introduce a VST host in another two-four years and ask $399 for it.
The worst part -- we'll all be buying it. RePoff?

Yes, I think the props make great stuff of their own. I do wish though that they would make more, sooner

HHAHAHAHAHHAHAHACWoodOne wrote:Maybe Record's innovations will spark a new trend and other DAW's like Logic, Cubase, and Live will discontinue their AU and VST support also...
riiiiiight
Record's ability to record sound and timestretch sound and drag Reason modules inside it will totally kill the VST world. What planet are you on?
