Not you ... 'reckon I'll still be using XP in 2015 too :P
God. Say it ain't so. I think everyone will be using Windows 7 just by sheer power of will.

I'd recommend not doing this. There is very little advantage to running the x86 version of W7 or Vista over XP...

A few nice features, sure... and a bit of eye-candy. But the added resource load is more than just trivial.

You'd be better off sticking with XP right now, and then upgrade to the 64 bit version of either Vista or W7 (they're both very similar in function and performance) when you've got a system that can take full advantage of a 64 bit OS.

Just my $0.02 :)

That's good advice, but it most certainly will be dual boot

Not a bad idea then.

You'll be able to spend some time familiarising yourself with the new UI and file structure.

I've been using Vista64 for quite some time now, and I've seen it evolve into a very solid next-gen OS. W7 (or 7ista as I'll henceforth call it) should warm people to the possibility that MS still knows how to make a decent OS.

I have no doubt about that, and I wanted to try the x64.....but there is so much confustion over my current soundcard (motu) including FIRMWARE updating  that I gave up on that idea for now.

Anyhow, I too thought it would be a good idea to familiarize myself with it.....kinda a piece by piece thing......

The sad thing is i want to lose

I just dont think i will.

For me and quite a few others, XP is an awesome OS that delivers in spades when it comes to digital audio.

And after a few years now, well, XP is our bitch and can be completely tweaked inside out and we regard this as a good thing.

However the march of time is starting to show, if only at a GUI level.

Well I'm still using the same electric guitar I bought 30 years ago .... because it works, it's paid for, and its mine! .... I feel the same way about xp!

Just a wee difference though, what if Microshaft were to withdraw support .... like service packs and security updates etc? ... and I found myself for whatever reason, in need of a fresh install? .... they wouldn't do that .. would they?

Yeah but what about that fancy new app yet to be released that you just HAVE to have, that wont install on XP?

You do know the world is ending in 2012 though? Therefor, it's moot.......:hihi:
Our family machine is still W98; work has just given me an XP box that I'm going to install as the new machine for email and children's games.

I'll prob still keep the W98 box going as a time piece (either that or image the disk and have it in a VM, and install a Linux distribution...)

XP in 2015? He'll have to keep a box that it will run on, a lot can happen in 6 years..

it seems to me that XP could be a viable product for decades or more, even though there will be way better operating systems. The low budget manufacturers will probably get thier hands on it sooner or later or will Linux be the one they go for. I think the PC will get smaller, more powerful and no moving parts. I do think the CD will still be around for a while. Im sure you might be seeing the low budget manufactures selling some small type of thing whith the windows XP in it? A computer does not realy need to be that powerful for every day use, I think its more to do whith this real time internet audio visual and game stuff. For 64 bit to realy work, everything else needs to of 64 bit quality too like CD's, DVD's and games for example. :D
