It's not a DAW ,It's more like a arranger type workstation/live (realtime ) VSTI host .It can record your playing and produce midi and stereo audio files .

It is a great sketch pad and really beats the hell out of the way most DAW's take a long time to get set up and to browse your VSTI's patches . It varies from plug to plug , but if the plugg has the midi standard banks and patches , it brings up the full list...
An the real cool part is that if the plug doesn't have the midi standard banks and patches , you can arrange the gui interface into a small horizontal strip for the pluggs gui and just show the top ( where most of the plugs have there browser any way ).

You can record a whole sesson of jamming and noodling in descreete midi ( or audio if you like) takes , cherry pick them ,edit as needed then use them in your full scale DAW production .

in short , it's really handy !!

There is also a mighty handy FXB bank editor too !!

It's also useful if you want to record direct to audio - surprisingly few hosts enable you to easily play a softsynth and record its output straight to audio but sometimes it's useful to be able to do so.

Actually, I've just removed the demo and replaced it with fully functioning 30-day trial versions of both Cantabile Solo and Cantabile Performer.

Cantabile is the best VST instruments and effects pug-in host of ever.
Expressly conceived for live performances solve in a straight and intuitive way all the problems tied with playing live VST and HW instruments. It is possible create complex set-up with instruments effects wave-files and midi-files, complex midi routing and recall all this via simply midi program change in real time. It is more and more time over Brainspawn Forte with a price more affordable. Practically every thing you need for play live can be done. You can launch audio or midi file in every moment synchronized or not with a large variety of tempo sources. You can trigger events or midi messages in consequence of others event. When the musicians world really will discover all the potentiality of Cantabile will be fascinated from this little fantastic host. And be carefully it is also a fantastic companion for study, composition where his way to record immediate and automatic allow quick fixing of ideas and phrases. It is now two years I use the precedent version and I have a great archive of ideas recorded in this way where I search frequently when I'm involved in composition.

You must test this little masterpiece.

+1. The auto record function is great.

I often use the free version if i want to build a kit and/or sequences with the d16 plugins as it's so much quicker to open than my host. The other great feature is that you can have it load what your currently working on and it will try and recover it if it crashes so it's a bit like live in that respect. It's also great for demoing plugins and sound design if you quickly want to build a patch.

I have been meaning to buy the full version for a while as i'm limited to two racks and there is no external sync. It's a great sketchpad and what Gianluca said sums up some of the reasons why i want to buy it.
