Reason can look fat with a decent amount of starch and corn syrup.

Add beef or chicken flavoring and salt and you have Knorr's DAW, Soupbase.djanthonyw wrote:Reason can look fat with a decent amount of starch and corn syrup.

Tools have character. Nothing is inferior to anything else. It's all about context.zion7 wrote:ill state this for the umpteenth time since some of you cant grasp what I said. Reason can sound phat with tons of work. I have states this before. I got a decent sound out of Reason too after a while. But it still didn't compare to my new toys in efficiency and overall power. The song posted, I don't get the genre but its def good quality. Well mixed. Sounds clear as hell. For lounge music, the sound doesn't need to be as huge as for my genres though. Hard to compare. But I can appreciate the production on this tune. Nice one.
STILL, to prove your point, you would have to show me a song he tried in Cubase or Logic that sounded worse than this. Likely, with VSTs, this song would be even phatter sounding.

skill is great and all but it doesn't create for amazing filters and analog sounding synthesis. Skills can take you far. Skills + better tools can take you further. Would you also argue that you can make as good of a song in Rebirth as in Reason?Meffy wrote:Fixed that for you.zion7 wrote:Reason can sound phat with a decent amount of skill and expertise.
I guess then everybody who upgrades their synths and buys new products is an idiot then?
nothing is inferior or superior in a vaccuum no. But everything is inferior or superior based on the context and need. for my needs, Reason is inferior.Amberience wrote:

I usually use that if I want Logic to look fat.Meffy wrote:Add beef or chicken flavoring and salt and you have Knorr's DAW, Soupbase.djanthonyw wrote:Reason can look fat with a decent amount of starch and corn syrup.

See, you keep making comparisons between music software, but you yourself have to admit that those comparisons don't mean anything - because of context. Sure, you can make the comparisons, but all you're really doing is a) talking to yourself, and b) winding people up.
Probably best to leave the discussion to the features of Record itself, and your opinions on what it HAS, rather than what it doesn't.

BTW, I'm not tooting my own horn here. At best I'm a fair-to-middling Reason user, no better or worse than when I'm using Sonar and VSTs.
I'm thinking of people like Omar Hashim or Ed Bauman or Peff who can do practically anything with Reason, including stuff I wouldn't believe was within its capabilities. And the dozens of other skillful musicians whose works I've enjoyed, who are less well known and maybe not as advanced, but every bit as worthy.
To me, and to many other users, Reason doesn't get in the way. It's not a lack of tools, it's a different set of tools, a very well engineered set that work wonderfully well together. I admire Reason, I admire my VST-based software. It's all good. Horses and roundabouts, swings for courses.

It seems to me your point is that you dont use Reason because it is not the proper tool for your projects. If my understanding is correct, may I suggest you goto a forum where you can discuss something you have knowledge about or are interested in.
Please direct your conversation to the "what synthesizer does zion like thread."

Lately I've met computer musicians of many different backgrounds and what strikes me is that as a group - we tend to distill down very technical topics into a simple 'feel'-based opinion. I guess that's natural for creative types. But it makes informed discussion very difficult.
For instance, I talked to someone lately who could swear that FL Studio provided a 'analog' sound that he found useful, but he couldn't put a finger on why. So he figured its just FL Studio itself thats 'phat'.
I wish there was a FAQ somewhere that could convince new users that between DAW-packages (as well as non-DAWs like Record, Reason), there is extremely little core difference in sound. The differences you are hearing are in the instruments, fx and production techniques used in the different packages!
There is nothing 'thin' about Reason. You could certainly use the instruments inside it to create thin sounds, but conversely you can create obscenely huge sounds as well.

@Zion7
Seriously nobody cares about how you and your friends cant make phat trance
in Reason.
Reason wasn't made for trance or euro house producers anyways. Go use Nexus and leave us alone.

well then. I am sorry that having an opinion on which software is better offends so many people. Especially when it comes from a long time previous Reason user. I came in this thread to discuss about Record. Sorry if my comments reminded you of how little your mommie loved you. I know I don't get offended if somebody slags a piece of software I use. Grow up people. Or don't and continue to resort to childish insults because your tiny ego is somehow linked to the program you use to make music.
