Hey! finally an area where I *can* be pinned down -- I only like women. But... we can't start gay bashing threads, right? :hihi:

So I guess I'm back to being a MacVSTPropsPC fanboy. :(

I see the debate has arrived at football. A few more pages and WWII will be adressed no doubt. But anyway here's a little explanation for the North Americans:

Right, but you see, it's not called football because you kick the ball. It's called football because it's played on foot. This was to distinguish football (and other lowly peasants' sports) from the "real" aristocratic British sports that involved horse-riding (fox hunting, polo etc). So basketball, handball and rugby are also "football" sports if you go by the old nomenclature.

Sorry Lawrence, I accidentally deleted a post of yours...
but - another 100 pages, no
when a thread veers so off-topic as this appears to be doing
then, the merciful thing is to put a lock on it.

You guys see the new Star Trek movie...cool huh? Ohh are we still talking about Reason? Just kiddin!

Wow. Go to work and 82 pages later there is a Reason/Record dissertation in progress.

You know what though. Reading through some of the posts, it is making me a little nostalgic about Reason. It's what I started on and the work flow just made it so easy for me to make songs that I thought would take me a lot longer to make. So, I fully understand your love for Reason, because I used it for a long time and I loved it too. It's a classic for sure. And...

YOU CAN'T BEAT SCREAM! To date, I have not found a distortion unit that sounds as unique and versatile as that one. I wish they would sell just that!

Plus, I love the old 16 step, old school, step sequencer in ReDrum. I used to make some tight ass beats with that thing.

The mastering suite did add a little depth but it was kinda funny, you have to give me that.

Anyway. Reason lovers rejoice, I think Reason is in a class by itself. I just got caught up in the VST world and once I bought Live, I couldn't get enough, I was downloading every free synth I could get me hands on. It took me three months to even realize that you can organize them.

As far as sound quality, I don't know who said it, I think it was Meffy, but it really is up to the user to make it sing. If you know what you are doing, you can make a fart sound like choir. Needless to say, I have conceded and agree with some of your points, fully. So, in conclusion:

1. I'm still not sure why they are so against VSTs (maybe somebody said, But I missed it). PM me if you can explain it to me. If you would be so kind. I would really appreciate it. I've always wondered.

2. It is a lot of fun.

3. Scream and NN-XT are in a class by themselves.

4. Thor is amazing, so much fun that you can spend all day f*cking around with that thing and still never finish your song.

5. I'm not sure about the sequencer they added, but it's only because I'm unfamiliar with it and don't really use it.

6. Reason does offer a lot of free sounds and refills on the their website.

7. Rewire. (do I have to say anymore!)

8. I love the Rack style interface, nice drag an drop.

9. the effects are severely lacking but, like I said...Rewire.

10. After all this nostalgic banter, I'm gonna bust out my Reason and have some fun with Redrum, Scream, Thor, Subtractor, and the Combinator (which I will admit, I don't have the patience to figure it out completely so I will rely on the amazing Combi refills provided by the generous people at propellerheads.se!)

I know that the thread was about Record but since it's so new I don't have much to say. I did watch the video and it looks cool, but WHY NO VSTs. Maybe somebody covered this but refresh my memory why they are so against vsts, please.

Anyway, for the most part this has been a very productive conversation. Much appreciated by those of us music addicts that come to KVR to learn and teach.

Tanks peeps!

because closed systems like reason are more stable and CPU friendly.

It was also speculated in the 1st couple of pages that the association Steiny and Props had a few years ago may have had some left over contractual obligations re: VSTi's

I don't know it this has been posted already, but anyway, Props created a Record Blog.

For now you can find WHY they came up with the idea of Record in the words of Ernst himself.

PS.: i'm not asking anyone to agree/disagree with his opinion, but at least ppl should read it before this thread goes off-track again (IBTL lol).
