you hereby have my permission to host anything I make that includes any version of Mr Alias on your website :)

Also, I just wanted to note here that pitchbend on certain patches in Alias is like a dream... so completely warped the sound does become!

And in the little 9-instance ditty I made 3 of the patches use automation... I played it all on my EWI midi horn and hooked up the breath control to the "division" parameter. Which is 1337.

Post

does it feel weird to play explosion sounds with your breath?

don't know why I bothered. Its gonna lose. I didn't even use mr alias. Only a bag of broken glass and 3 raisins. was gonna call it "asapargus pee" to win back some points, but that would be a cheap ruse. Wanted to keep it honest.

Do you work at sea world or something? You seem like an expert at training beasts.

thanks! (... I think?... :hihi: ) but don't be fooled. It's all a series of planned accidents made to look like "I meant to do that"
(ie- the "main part" that keeps morphing is due to follow actions that I set up in Live 7: a series of clips to simply trigger preset changes in mr alias. I set up a similar series of follow actions to trigger a good portion of the "melody" as well ;)
see? all a series of "planned accidents". really! no magic or beast training necessary. Just brute force and stubborness :hihi:

i also had a great entry e-mailed to me last night. that's 11 entries so far. there's still plenty if time (i think... what day is it?).

The Phylogenetic Harmoniums - Do you like Green Beans too?

pretty soon i hope to have a nice web page for all this, with cool "Mr. Alias Challenge 2009 Compilation" cover art.

blind listening situation is still prone to bias, which makes the competition less attractive, complete objectiveness can only be attained in a deaf listening situation

good point. i'll have to hire a panel of professional deaf listeners for the most accurate results.

here's the website i started working on:
http://www.thepiz.org/mralias2/challenge/

you can more easily listen to and/or download all the entries there. the flash mp3 player thing has embedded links to the websites of those who entered... if anyone would like something different there, please let me know.

I know I said that I used 3 raisins.
I lied.
I didn't have 3. I only had 2. and I didn't use the broken glass either. I just wanted to sound cool. sorry. I should have been more honest in the first place.

Here's my second entry. It could be accurately described as my magnum opus... a long and contemplative, evolving soundscape that explores our true nature and and the plight of humanity as a whole.

The Triumph of Our Souls in the Valley of Our Debts.mp3 - 22.45MB

Well I didn't think I would manage to do a track for this comp ... what with all the other comp stuff, but I fired up MR Alias, and shook some raisins and broken glass for inspiration and hey! ... I'm in! .. track not finished yet, but well on the way!
