World Bass Star Competition - WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

You know, there are so many good entries. We just haven't had enough votes to give the entrants the credit they deserve (every entry submitted was worthy of votes). I mean, "Landscape Sunrise" is really, really good and doesn't have any votes. That shouldn't be. That is certainly no reflection of the quality of the song. The composer really deserves kudos. It's a beautiful, intimate piece. I have to speak up and say, if I had more than one vote, "Landscape Sunrise" would have received a vote from me.

Candidly, my two top favorite entries are: "Piece for Pear" and "Landscape Sunrise." And because Greg added the bios for the artists, I checked out the artists with links and found one of the best songs I have ever heard from any KVR member with Peter Andersson's "So" -- which, I later learned, was performed with the "Cherry" library for the bass. Guys like Peter make me embarassed to share my own songs (the guy is a good composer, singer, musician/drummer) -- I was thinking of sending Peter some of my better tunes to redo! It's really enjoyable and yes, humbling, to hear how talented some KVR members are.

Some standout entries, in my opinion:

- "Piece for Pear" and "Landscape Sunrise" are beautiful compositions. I downloaded both to listen to again and again. I would really like to know more about these artists.
- "Up and Running" sounds like it came from a soundtrack, very cool and pro.
- "Koreana Express" is a really good piece of composition and playing.

Yeah, I love the composition, Landscape Sunrise. Cherry is used so melodically, and the guitar playing is so pristine! A beautiful and elegant duet!

I would hope that ALL the composers of contest entries could add links so everyone can check out more of their music.

Greg and I came up with the idea of doing this contest (I advise him on marketing -- which basically grew out of me being a giant fan of Greg's beautiful sample libraries), but I can say this contest has been a wonderful, eye opening experience for me to learn about some very talented artists I may never have known. Thank you so much to all entrants for sharing, I have really enjoyed your music.

Sorry, I didn't mean to send any signals that the contest was ending. I was just really enjoying some of the entries and appreciating getting turned on to some of the very talented musicians I was, until this contest, not aware of.

Holy cow, I won!

Not to give a speech or anything, but I do have to say I feel very honored. After all, I also *really* liked - and was very impressed by - the competing entries in WBS. (Too bad there weren't more people voting in the end. It was plain wrong that some entries got 0 or only 1 or 2 votes. I think each and every entry deserved *at least* 25% of the votes! Hmm...).

Thanks Greg for arranging this competition and giving us the chance to participate and get the chance to win these wonderful prices! I know I'm not the only one waiting with great eagerness for the Jaco bass now!

I'd also like to say thanks again to the people giving me positive feedback on "Cherry Choke". This has given me a *great* motivation boost!

Yes, huge props to Greg for hosting the contest and for his great generosity. And thanks to the voters for taking the time to listen and vote. Mad kudos and good vibes to the other contestants too (my entry was "Up and Running"). Much skill and talent displayed here, it encourages me to keep working at it.

I'd also like to know the percussion used on "Up and Running" -- it sounds so authentic I'm guessing it was either real percussion played live or a loop. If not, I want to know the library.

Though I try to play percussion on the keys once in a while the percussion in this piece was from the Jamcussion add-on for Jamstix. Highly recommended (and on sale right now too ).

I'm just a school teacher with an expensive hobby:-) I'm honored to be in such good company, it's my first time to enter a contest like this and event though my entry didn't get any votes (not even my own:-), I don't feel completely out of place here.

It's a big honor for me to be one of the runner-ups (Very Cherry) in this competition.
I didn't expect to be competitive at all with my mainstream approach amongst all these sophisticated and beautiful entries.

I totally agree with pekadan: The few votes that some of the other entries have received are not adequate to their high quality and skills.

Special thanks to you Greg, who made this happen, which was a great opportunity for me to publish something to more people, than to my own family .
I sincerely hope -should there ever be another competition- we manage to arouse more attention to it, which hopefully results in more entries and more votings.
