Hi, relative newbie here

Can someone please help me with how these apps should be correctly installed on my PC or does it not matter?

I downloaded the 10pak zip file. It extracts all the different apps and related files into 1 folder. The apps do appear to be working (they are great!) but I wonder if some of the other files like the dll files are supposed to be placed in specific locations on my PC or organized in some way. There are no installers that I can see. Is it OK to just leave all these apps loose in that folder with the other files and just store it anywhere on my hard drive, or should they be properly installed via some procedure?

You must put the DLLs in your VSTPlugins folder for the synths to work in your host ( if you have a host , I mean ) .

Right, that's the one - my apologies, I got confused when I mentioned the model (the cr 78 is actually the one used by Phil Collins in In the Air Tonight) because on the sleeves of Oxygene and equinoxe it is simply called Rhytmin' Computer or Rhytmicomputer

I don't think I have a "host". Not sure what that is. The apps all seem to work as far as making sounds and I can run them from my mouse. If I want to run them from a midi keyboard, would I need a "host"?

BTW: I don't remember who asked how to start Rhythmicus (I got the name wrong, probably, haven't learnt them yet) from the keyboard: for me it's with any key of the third octave, just check which is yours, but remember that the sequencer must be running for both this and Ocet to play!

Thanks for the response but this just isn't working for me. Yes I have the sequencer running, I tried every octave on the keyboard but none start/stop the Rythmus.

I'm doing a work around, start it without any of the rhythm buttons engaged and then using MIDI CC to switch them on and off.

OK, try this: I discovered that, for some reason, if you're using it with other vst's you must open it and set the midi channel of the machine and the midi channel of the sequencer for that track on the same number (all as a channel on the machine won't do). With the sequencer running, keep any key down to make it play (except about the first octave and a half, where you'll find the single sounds), when you release the key it stops.

The midi channel needs to be set on 'All' to run the arp. I discovered this making Cymbiant. Rythymus has a start button (I think). Ran great in Orion Platinum. Kept pushing buttons - more great rhythms.

I can not start it from the keyboard either, instead my keyboard respond as if Rythmus was a sound module, that is, I can play each sound individually.

However I can both start rythmus (daw has to run though) and switch the rythms with midi messages. In Orion all midi functions are mapped and labelled automatically, which makes the proces a piece of cake.

I am so full of it. I can NOT start from midi message, only shift rythm, but I have found the start function on the keyboard between c8 and c9. It has to be held down to run. Note on =start Note off= stop.

No , you don't need one to play those synths with a midi keyboard . All you need is a keyboard with an USB conection for sending the midi to your computer , or a soundcard with midi conections , if you already got a keyboard and it's not USB .

A host is what everybody here uses for making music . It's like a virtual studio with multiple tracks where you can run and record synths like those in this thread . You can record audio too and apply effects to every track ( no matter if they have synths or audio ) . Finally , you can export the mix as an audio file and burn it in a CD .

So , your computer is all you need to make a record . The best part of all this is that you can find free synths , effects and hosts here in KVR , so you don't need to spend a cent for making your own music . Many developers share their creations for free or asking for a donation . If you explore KVR's database you'll find all the details , incuding the price . Here is a KVR link to a free host :

Damn, to think I was going to take a break from KVR... I almost missed these.

A little late to the party but I'm dropping in anyway to give this Polish dude his props. I would certainly drop cash on these instruments... I am loving Tapeotronic. I put on the FL Soundgoodizer and an instance of Epicverb and played a few chords... amazing.

You're the only guy I know who quotes himself in a forum
Anyway, the start (and stop) key seems to be different according to the system you're using, I wonder why? Just record a 1 whole note part and repeat it, you will not have to hold down the key and it will stay in time no matter what point of the song you're starting from

Sounds good to me if he fixes the GDI bug on the plugs with animated GUIs on win98/ME as I have reported in the other thread. I can't use those ones with the GUI opened. All I can do is do is use them with the GUI closed which is not bad already considering they sound quite good.

What about updating you PC ? Even on older machines XP runs faster than W98.
