Not a ton of content on it right now but I imagine more will be added in the future. It has a list of his current gear in his new studio in Maine. It looks like he's really whittled down his synth collection although he still has some gems in there. No list of the softsynths though.

Here's a list of some of the stuff he was eBaying before moving to the U.S.:
http://failedmuso.blogspot.com/2007/11/ ... -sale.html
No mention of the PS 3300 in there. Apparently, some of the stuff had water damage from being stored in the basement of his sphere studio -- most famously, his Fairlight CMI.

Yeah,i've seen that list. I have 2 major OCDs. Kraftwerk and Vince Clarke. I thought the flood was in Splendid studio. The one in the Blackwing basement.LBN wrote:Here's a list of some of the stuff he was eBaying before moving to the U.S.:

Apperently he and Eric Radcliffe had a huge falling out with each other. Dunno if it was related to that or not.
Anyways the PS 3300 was in 37B. It's clearly visible in the famous 37B vanity shot. In ascending order:
Vince head
ARP 1601 Sequencer
Moog modular ?
Korg Ps 3300

depeche mode - speak&spell (1981)
yazoo- upstairs at erics (1982)
his contributions to "techno" and "electro" (especially the euro flavour) were noticeably more important than any shit "detroit" "chicago" etc ever came up with.
influenced by punk he speeded up the tempo of disco.
he introduced funk into electronic dance.
he used hooks supersaw style (using pwm)
he had the first proper fast electronic dance beat. (120 bpm+)
catchiest dance songs that would get u up and dancing on first listen.
and those sounds are still referenced today in electropop , minimal etc etc

notice how he doesn't have any VA hardware either....as VAs being software suffer from the same problems soundwise as softsynths.LBN wrote:http://www.vinceclarkemusic.com/

although i'm sure with new generation of softsynths the gap will be closed with the analogs .

I think that has more to do with his reluctance to learn new gear than anything else. There's nothing on that list that is less than 10 years old. The JP8000 is the newest piece of gear (and a VA i might addolicana wrote: notice how he doesn't have any VA hardware either....
He knows the stuff he has inside out and there's little need for anything new with that rig. He's quite conservative gearwise as i understand it (understatement of the year)

I CM no. 136. There is an interview in which Clark tells that he has used "logic's softsynths on a lot of albums". Also Reaktor, Absynth and the moog modular V is praised.olicana wrote:notice how he doesn't have any VA hardware either....as VAs being software suffer from the same problems soundwise as softsynths.

Yeah but that was when he had all the goodies listed above in storage.Hskovlund wrote:I CM no. 136. I doubt he uses much softsynths nowadays.

a lot of albums? he aint realesed much in the softsynth era!Hskovlund wrote:I CM no. 136. There is an interview in which Clark tells that he has used "logic's softsynths on a lot of albums". i know he was makin his own ensembles in reaktor and had fun with it...and other softsynths but in the end he still falls back on his analogs.
even martin gore when softsynths came out was prasing synths like the mercury vsti and oddity etc....but in the end for his new album (sounds of the universe) he went back full on analog synths.

read posts above...he ws quick to jump on to midi and digital synths in the mid 80s only to find out he didnt like it.
and he was quick to try out VAs in the late 90s...and he was quick to try out Vstis in early 2000. he just uses what he prefers soundwise.
ps: i didnt see the jp8000 in the list....but thats the only VA...probably for its supersaw (as theres not really such thing in analog).

He used the BBC Micro for like 17 years. 10 of those he was the only user in the world who used thu UMI sequencer program. The programmer kept updating it for him only.olicana wrote: wehat a load of bullshit. vince clarke conservative? lol
He used banks of Roland MC4s to sequence, which is the most arcane sequencer on the planet, just because he knew it so well and could work really fast on it.
He has'nt used a sampler in the last 20 years or so.
He used softsynths pretty much because he had too. All his other stuff was in storage.
His newest synth is 12 years old and most of it is older than 20. Yeah,i'd say he's a tad on the conservative side.
It's no big secret he's not fond of new things since he knows his old gear so well.
EDIT: Well f**k me,i was going to the Erasure site to find some quotes to back up my claims and the only one i found was how excited he was about trying the new softsynths and how great they sounded.

Tell that to CM magazine or Vince Clarke himself, I would not know really. I am just quoting CM and that is what it says. Here is the full quoteolicana wrote:a lot of albums? he aint realesed much in the softsynth era!
About the difference between old analogs and software Vince says (according to CM):CM136 p.84 wrote: VC: "We used a lot of Logic's soft synths on a lot of the albums', as they are more akin to analogue synthesizers. It's not necessarily the sound, but the way you control them and obtain patches."
There is nothing in the article that suggests that he should decline VAs in general as you suggested. Also with his JP8000 in mind, it seems you are on an unfounded track here. It must be your own reasons that you confuse with Clark's.CM136 p.84 wrote: VC: "I think that analogue has an inherent sound to it -it's like the old argument over vinyl versus CD. It seems that you hear more frequencies coming from an old analogue synth than you do from a software synth, but the great thing about the latter is that you can do far more complex modulation, both within the synth itself and on the keyboard"
Yes and in CM mag Vince says that he probably will use analogs again on his next album, but that does not mean he does it for the reasons that you suggests! There is no trace of such explanation! It is pure guessworkolicana wrote: i know he was makin his own ensembles in reaktor and had fun with it...and other softsynths but in the end he still falls back on his analogs.
