I picked Rare instruments and I have four in mind. I don't think samplesets exist of these anywhere, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Riti - West African violin-like instrument, but played upright like an Erhu. Really scratchy and scrapey.

Rebec - viol used in Medieval/Renaissance music. 3 strings I think - reminds one of a more fluid hurdy gurdy.

Regal - another Medieval instrument. A Brass reed portative organ that sounds similar to a Crumhorn.

Gombri - Middle Eastern bass lute.

That's it. Next time I'll be more specific.

Should we be today-excited, this-week-excited, or should we muster up the patience of a probably-not-until-June-excitement?

June excitement. Putting it together now. It will involve SR and another sound developer never before in SampleTank format collaborating on a custom limited time product in a category we've kind of missed a bit. More news coming soon...

I'm impatient to read more about that.

Hi
I chose Ethnic Instruments as something I would like Sonic Reality to do. In particular I would like Tabla, Djembe, and Darbuka IMAPed. I would also love to have the sitar sampled realistically with the resonant strings et al.
Some suggestions.
Tabla- sampled in various keys. Keys for a percussive instrument! western musicians will have their heads full of question marks but a Tabla recorded in an Indian recording is usually tuned to the key of the drone note (the scale of the song). I have not seen any library do the Tabla the Indian way (loops or otherwise). I think the IMAP might get us some realistic sounding finger tablists . I want to see Squids play Tabla on the keyboards :)
EDIT- different kits for different Tabla (tuning)keys is what I had in mind
Sitar- It would be nice to have a possibility to sample the various resonant strings and tune and mix them according to the needs of the song just like you add the different microphones in the Ocean Way drums. A sitar's resonant strings are tuned to the different notes in the scale of the song. This is again a feature I have never seen in a sampled Sitar.
Thank you Sonic Reality for your great products and for taking customer service to a new level.

My vote goes for World instruments But I would also like a library of sounds similar to the background sounds on many of my favourite albums. The gong in water effect on Crime of the Century, the pitch falling organ sound on Trespass, water droplets and splashes on Take a Pebble, machine noises on Wish you were here, the generator sound (a Leslie being started??) at beginning of Fireball and all manner of whoops and filter effects much used by Steve Hillage and Jean Michael Jarre :)
