WHEW! So I did the complete flush of everything, ran CCleaner just in case there was a missing registry reference or something, and ran the installer again.
First time loading, ALL my plugins scanned fine, including HalionOne. All are available in C5. No crash, nothing. What a relief. I don't know what I would have tried next.
Outside of deleting files and registry entries, I didn't change anything. So there was something funky in there. I don't know what, but it was there stinking up the joint.
Ok, back to installing more stuff that wasn't in the image. Good times again!

Hi,
Well, I still don't get why track presets aren't offered for group tracks in the first place yet? Anyone does know or have a good explanation to offer? To me, group tracks only differ from audio tracks in that the audio input isn't bound to the track itself but the channel input.
Like mostly everyone around here for the last couple of years I had to get used to a hardware ressources efficient way of working. In my opinion I've really succeeded.
For example, when putting up some new kick sounds it takes 2 - 4 audio tracks loaded with the raw samples and the basic EQs for the gross frequency split. The main sound glueing and molding, however, I mostly do on a group track. Consequently, that's the place where I setup my FX chains for basic sound categories. Now, coming from SX3 - and apart from all the obvious imperfections - I started to really appreciate the media browser concept. But with my workflow significantly depending on group tracks I'm somewhat, well, irritated. Sure, I still could - and do - save .vmx-files. But being all the time confronted with the power of patch meta-information, group tracks currently yet lacking those are a bit lame or inconseqent, aren't they? I just don't want to start with copying all teh inserts to an audio track and save the corresponding track preset in the wrong context just to get back the FX chain by a 'fake' meta search.
Am I missing something basic here?
Cheers,
LiteOn
now I too have to come back to that really handy workflow thingie 'track presets":koolkeys wrote: But then I discovered Track Archives. It's everything that track presets SHOULD be. You can select any tracks you want to save as a preset(say you set up a multi-timbral instrument with all tracks for different channels), then export a track archive. It saves track configurations, MIDI files, audio files, etc. in an XML file, and gives you the option to reference the media files or save them with the archive.

Nope. You nailed it. That is an issue exactly as you describe.LiteOn wrote:Am I missing something basic here?

Edit: But you can save the FX chains (inserts) in group channels from the edit window/ channel strip, so that helps a bit. If you use the studio EQ insert or a third party EQ that'll take care of it.I just don't want to start with copying all teh inserts to an audio track and save the corresponding track preset in the wrong context just to get back the FX chain by a 'fake' meta search.

Good to hear you made it, Brent !
There's enough to keep you on your toes with a new host already, no need for shady stuff like that.
Now relax, finish the installations and enjoy your new setup.

Hi Lawrence,
thanks for replying. Since I don't have Cubase on my 'type-writer machine' I have to have to hook-up here.

PS: Just to make it clear - Cubase 5 is a wonderful release (running Cubase since version 2.8 - still got the LPT-dongle...)!!

Is this any different from the plain old SX3 'saving mixer presets' aka saving to .vmx-files? Is the saved information been added and accessible by the media browser in any way?LawrenceF wrote: Edit: But you can save the FX chains (inserts) in group channels from the edit window/ channel strip, so that helps a bit. Not in the media bay but they're immediately accessible on the channel strip like EQ presets. I stored one here on my laptop so you could see it... "Group X". They're accessible from any track class with inserts.LiteOn wrote:Is this any different from the plain old SX3 'saving mixer presets' aka saving to .vmx-files? I agree with you that standard track presets that appear on the inspector like with audio tracks would be very welcome on group and FX channels.

It depends when you take an image and whether you do one after every app you install/change you make. Which reminds me - I need to take an image.LeVzi wrote:Ok, back to installing more stuff that wasn't in the image. Good times again!

Yes, my image was outdated and I hadn't updated it, so there are lots of apps that got installed or upgraded or changed since then. So I've been re-installing those items. When I'm done though, I'm making a new image!
Still saves a ton of time though.

Your question: Impressed with Cubase- am I crazy? What impresses you?
My answer: Yes, you are crazy. What doesn't impresses me ?
After I try Pro Tools, Cubase was completly obsolete.
Also, I never liked very mutch. Sould my Version 4 at some weeks.
Steinberg should stop and think again what they really want do do, and not copying parts of other software.
