No. Kontakt doesn't have audio ins.

Thanks, ew.

I know Kontakt doesn't have audio in, but I was hoping Kore would 'free' that constraint. Ah well.

Reading this is killing me... so many toys and so little time. Kore 2 with the controller is relatively inexpensive now when you think about it. I have Komplete 6 already. Maschine is damn cool (played with one at a local G0C). Also I am nearly done a major home studio rework - old stuff Ebay'd (a new verb for you) and new stuff in or ordered.

Alchemy, LinPlug, and Rob Papen's stuff should be OK with Kore 2 right?

Too many items on the list.

I'd surmised, from my limited research into Kore, that there was some issue with importing presets with Albino etc.
Certainly you can't import Nexus' presets into it, which kinda scuppors it for me.

Import as in batch import no (at least not for Nexus, Albino and Alchemy - it does work for Blue and I presume the same is true of the other RPCX synths). But you can import patches individually. Reason - different devs using their own systems - not really NI's fault.

Batch import is over rated anyway. The whole point of Kore is to act as a Sound design platform enabling you to create complex multi layered Sounds from a Library of smaller building blocks and to search for the right sounds to use for this based on attributes. If you batch import how could you have attributes for what you import? - to create those you would still have to go through each and tag them afterwards which would be as time consuming as doing it one-by-one anyway. Best process is to only import your favourite patches - tag them in great detail (to create rich, searchable data) and add controller mappings to them as well (to use with the Kore hardware).

Up to 90% of most sound banks are dross anyway so why clutter up your library with hundreds of useless, untagged, unsearchable Sounds?

Mine too- I didn't know there was such an animal. The power of a typo...
:hihi:

Albino- some people on the Kore forum have reported issues; some haven't.
LinPlug- with CronoX 3 (the only LinPlug instrument I have), it works, but you can't batch import- no .fxb
RP- I use Blue and Predator. With the latest versions of each, import works as it should; in the older versions, you had to select the patch twice from Kore's browser to flush the edit buffer.

Automation wise, they all work fine with Kore.

I really don't want to ask this, because I really shouldn't spend any money, but...

is the hardware controller much better than the Novation Nocturn, for someone that doesn't tweak that much ?

I'm very tempted by the software edition now that I have a mega-PC(Mac) but I keep hearing voices that it won't be complete without the hardware :help:

Main synths I'll rack in it are the standard Zeb/Omni/Alch/Syl1/Reak/Kont, hosted in Live 8 on the Pc... um. Mac. um. computer

Post

Whether it's better than the Nocturn as a controller I can't say- I've never used a Nocturn.
However, with Kore you don't have the wrapped .dlls that you do with Automap, which can be a plus depending on the host, etc.

ew
Very true - I guess though, I could map the Nocturn via MIDI to Kore, and ignore all the automap stuff ?

Post

Yeah, you could do that.

I actually reported this on the NI forums a while ago. The presets all import but they are one off - the name doesn't match the actual preset. Seems to be something with Albino though and not Kore.

Post

Is it working in Pro-Tools 8 yet ?

I was half-tempted to grab PT now it has better Midi, but I have a few VST/AU that I don't have RTAS for, and I believe (?) I can use Kore to solve that problem better than ReWire. However, I was also led to believe it's only 7.4 compatible at the moment ?

Post

As a VST automation based controller Kore has higher resolution than Nocturn for stuff opened in Kore and the knobs have a better feel. The next update will also enable it to function as a midi controller for devices without them needing to be wrapped in Kore but then of course the resolution would be the same as Nocturn or any other midi controller
