Scott Lake - Nod to Budd
Sort of downtempo tune - uses several of the elektrostudio pack of VST recently posted here at KVR
I used the Rhythmus drum machine for the content in the left channel, feeding Jamstix in the right channel, both going through dBlue Glitch.
Thunder sound from ODSAY
Lead from ODSAY
The rhythmic chords from the SXMJune synth. Chord pattern kind of stolen from the Harold Budd/Brian Eno track that U2 used to close out their most recent CD.
Lots of Bionic Delay used on different tracks, ariesverb as well as Kjaerhus' Classic Reverb.
Committed the cardinal sin of mixing purely on headphones - in a hotel room no less.
Enjoy or destroy.

Very original ! this isn't what I was expecting from you but you surprised us all with different influences in your music, in the past.
This is a good track, well refined arrangemets and nice melodies
Well done
Cheers
I tried that a couple of times myself, and I must admit your result is much better than mine, your mix sounds good to me and I think it's well balanced (maybe it could be slightly lacking basses, but I'm not listening on my usual speakers so I'm not sure about that)mixing purely on headphones - in a hotel room

My first thought is, on the opening (typing this as I'm listening)- great sound! Full. Nice kick, open stereo field, I dig it.
Secondly, of cousre, is concerning dB glitch. I used to use it a lot and have experimented a lot with it, so hearing it always sets my nerves a bit on end- I couldn't miss the modulation effect. I like how you used it though- sparingly- which is great.
The lead just came in. This is real nice- reminds me of pink floyd almost. Laid back, mellow, kind of deep. This is something I would listen to on my own time I think, and enjoy it many times over. Great job =).
It really "sets a scene". That's one quality of "good" (or maybe "skillfully written" is more appropriate) music, or that's my belief at least. Great.

Chill factor 1000.
A brilliant electronic tune.
The solo is just spot on.
Just as well it loops seamlessly in WMP....it's on a third run now...

I was thinking this same thing. Again, I'm mixing on in-ear monitors, which this pair from Westone has stellar low-end response (I should make a disclaimer that I now work for Westone), so I don't really know if I should add a bassline to this track or not.Laguna Rising wrote:maybe it could be slightly lacking basses, but I'm not listening on my usual speakers so I'm not sure about that
The other thing is that the kicks between the right and left ears are not in sync - I don't know if that drove anyone nuts yet or not. Probably not if you aren't listening on cans. On these monitors there is quite a bit of bump in the kicks that are a little bit tonal, so I was worried about wrecking that by adding a tonal bass-line.
I was really impressed with the cool sounds that you can get from that Rhythmus drum machine that's in the elektrostudio pack. There's some really fun VSTi in that pack.

Glad you guys liked the solo. I did dress up the ODSay patch (it's one of the presets) with delay and reverb and dialed down the volume quite a bit from where I had it originally. Gotta love the bionic delay and ariesverb plugs for this. It's a pretty simple lead. The octave shifts I played live using the +/- octave buttons on my M-Audio Oxygen 49 keyboard. It's really too bad that board has such crummy key action - I would use it more, but right now, I'm using it because it's all I have access to.himalaya wrote:The solo is just spot on.
Now, some homework for you guys if you liked this:
As I mentioned the chord progression is somewhat lifted from a Brian Eno/Harold Budd collab from the early 80's. http://www.amazon.com/The-Pearl/dp/B001 ... 411&sr=8-3
It's either the "Echo of Night" or "Against the Sky" track. I'm gonna have to buy that one on CD because I just have it on vinyl and cassette copy that I made of the vinyl. One of my favorite Eno albums, next to Apollo.

Ronnie, thanks for that. You know, I was listening to my 'core' collection on a flight from Detroit to Denver earlier this week on my mp3 player.core wrote:Very nice track Scott, great beats too. Thanks for sharing.
I can't remember how you came about doing the song with the Mohawk translations, but that is such a killer track. I could listen to that all day.

I like this track a lot. Very smooth and relaxing. The headphone mix sounds good - at least on my headphones at work. Maybe it should be a "headphones only" song. Now that my mind has drifted - thanks to you - I'll have to find a way to get back to work.

Armoor - glad you enjoyed it. I don't know where it was that your mind drifted. That it happened - that makes me happy and sends my mind drifting.Armoor wrote:

If you like this kind of thing, make sure to check out core's tunes as well as polyslax here on KVR.

So this was about education. I tried to teach some Mohawk (no it's not me, but the voice of Peter "Kwiter" Greci).
