I thought I'd share these november download stats with the kvr'ians:
Cheezemachine PC: 2233
TickyClav PC: 1184
Rhino demo: 694
Angelina demo: 696

It's amazing how many people come here to get the freebies, but won't even give a try to the other stuff... :-(

PS. Here are the Mac numbers for comparison:
Cheezemachine Mac: 219
TickyClav Mac: 171

I remember when I first started, I went around grabbing as much free stuff as I could. It's a great way to learn. Then I went back and bought Angelina. Then Rhino. But I sampled all the free stuff from all the devs at first. Didn't go back and buy stuff everywhere...

Some people just want to play a little. Some people want to learn. Everyone likes free stuff. Free stuff rocks.

Post

Don't jump to conclusions, some people don't have enough money (yet) to buy stuff...

They'll remember who gave them freebies though.

I've only gone to your site once or twice (a long time ago)because the only way I can is to disable my firewall...If I could get there under normal circumstances, I am interested in Rhino...what's the deal with your site?

What's the deal with you being awake right now? Isn't it, like, 5am where you are? :o

Disabling your firewall ?!?!? Nah... There's nothing special about my site, really, just plain php stuff...
If you want to give Rhino a try you can grab it direct from here:

I don't often post replies, but I felt the need this time. One of my first VSTis was your Cheez Machine, (and I still use it regularly) but since that time I've become a registered user of all your VSTis. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. It's also worth remembering that not everyone has a state-of-the-art set up, and the second biggest attraction to freebies (the first being that they're..um..free  )is that they don't tend to gobble up your CPU. Another plus that springs to mind is that habitual users of cracked software  don't tend to bother with freebies - so at least you've got more people downloading your free stuff than cracking your demos...just a thought

I actually got the Rainbow demo today, cos im doin a track that someone used it in, a remix.

...and had you thought that the number of people who tried the other stuff might actually go down if you didn't give away the freebies...

H :)

I was the same way tick.
I got my first whiff of a free vst and went on a manic coke-laced all night search and destroy mission on the internet.
It's how I found K-V-R 8) Yours were among the first free synths I got and then later on down the road I bought angelina.
By then I was a big fan of your work and bought rhino apon release without bothering to demo.
needless to say I wasn't let down.

Yup. When I was first exploring VSTI I went crazy downloading free stuff (easy when you have a cable modem). Then I bought a few inexpensive VSTI (and a few "clinkers" - Livesynth pro, anyone?) and downloaded demos of some interesting ones.

The freebies caught my attention... but the capabilities of Rhino and Angelina sold me, once I knew enough to do more than just play with presets... but when I was a "true newbie" that's all I could have done.

Thanks Tick!

Hi Tick,
Twas your excellent freebie stuff that made me buy Rhino, and I've been delighted with it ever since - I even voted for it as my favourite in the CM soft synth vote, saying it was massively underrated... I can't have been the only one, judging by that better-late-than-never review they ran shortly afterwards.

Unfortunately there will always be those who only go for the freebies, but I suppose a degree of that is only to be expected from a generation raise to think Microshaft's 'rip 'em for every penny' policy is the norm from software companies. I've got to say, I think MS's attitude has done enormous damage to the software industry as a whole, and is partly responsible for the disgraceful proliferation of cracked programs... in addition to the *******'s who do the cracking of course!!

Hopefully, though, more people are coming round to the idea that they have to contribute something to get quality like that offered by companies such as Big Tick...

You know, I was able to afford myself the basic setup here, and poof not much more money to spend...

I too went crazy in a search for all the free stuff available and still have lots in my plugin folder (including Cheezemachine and some demo's). Now about half a year later down the line, I realize that all those freebies, have helped me learn what is possible and available out there and where their qualities lie. Nowadays I dl demo's to try them on for size, and eventually put them on the wish list. As of yet I still don't have too much money to spend on Vst's but I do know the Angelina and Big Tick are on my wish list.

Patience is the virtue here, and positive thinking. There's always going to be bunches of freeloaders around.

I think Angelina is the best voice type synth out there at the moment and Rhino is on my hit list – especially as it has presets designed by some very well respected programmers and not only that its being actively developed all the time – I got a feeling its going to be one of those software classics. It does have a distinctive sound and this must make people wish they had tried it.

In fact I recommend that they do – ok! So there is a Stong risk of purchasing it once you have played about with it, but how do you know if you don’t try?

Best regards,
