SynthMaster 2.0: No more C/R, Serial Number cp only!

Hi fellows,
A couple of days ago we announced here the upcoming version of SynthMaster:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=253647
Some folks emailed us and expressed the view that, if the new version was using serial numbers only, they'd buy it immediately.
What's your though on this? If you were to purchase SynthMaster 2.0, would the copy protection method affect your decision?
Thanks for your input!

Who in their right mind would actually want c/r over a serial?

I'm gonna be honest for you: Developers only!
As a developer, I am seriously scared to see copies of my product on p2p networks scattered on the internet. So far, I have spent almost 5000 hours (five thousand, yes) on the R&D of this product, so I dont want to waste my efforts.
That's why I am scared of serial number copy protection. However, I noticed that even Fruity Loops and Reason have only serial number copy protection
So that means, even if there are some leaks on the internet, those products are selling real well.
Dont know, just have to decide. I also know that even C/R protection is cracked, as that also happened to us in November 2008.

The question was would you still buy it if it used c/r, not would you prefer c/r to serial.djanthonyw wrote:Who in their right mind would actually want c/r over a serial?

I think we'd go with serial number protection if we get at least a couple of hundred votes in favor of purchasing with serial number protection

I can see your point, but here is my opinion: I believe that a hardest copy protection method (other than a serial) will just give some extra challenge fun to the crack world (giving them the oportunity to increase their skills), will be downloaded by people who collect cracked stuff not really using it (and that wouldn't buy it anyway) and will keep out some serious buyers. This is just a "feeling", not a real sociological research.
You mentioned Fruity Loops and Reason, I also remember rgcAudio (at least the old pre-Cakewalk days, now I don't know), DiscoDSP, Big Tick, Algo Music, EnergyXT, etc.
On the other hand, with CR I don't even bother to try the free 'lite' versions; Samplitude SE (with CM magazine) is a good example.
Edit: on second thought I think that old rgcAudio and DiscoDSP don't even carried a key file. Am I wrong?

Those two questions are different... how? If someone isn't going to purchase something due to c/r copy protection they obviously prefer serial.kv331 wrote:If you were to purchase SynthMaster 2.0, would the copy protection method affect your decision?

But the question in the polls I was referring to. Please , Please,
Go with a very , very long serial number ... I can cut and paste . Or use a license key and put my name on it .
C/r is bad news! just ask anyone who has had a drive blow up .
It's just so sweet to get everything back together and imaged , then try to get back to work and up pops the
" hey , you're done here ; contact us or your not going to use the stuff you payed for "
Oh and just for the record , if you're ever so wildly sucessfull that you feel can you can shove a usb key on every customer , do it Virsyn style( harry says if your in his records , he'll take care of you !) , and not Auturia style( who basically say F.U. then !!) .....
from the Aurturia website...
http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/pro ... specs.html at the very bottom
Audiomidi is having a sale on there virtual analogs and I thought about getting the Jupiter8. Then I accidentially switched a synchrosoft key for another product I have to another usb slot and windows took it out of sight from the synchrosoft license center and the program would'nt run.
That scare and the quote from their site above made me think twice!
You know what , If I completely lose everything , but can remeber my logon say at Voxegno , they have everything ready for me to get right back on my horse again availible to me . Companies like that will always get my buisness again and again !!!
Cheers

Important Note:
Your license number, and thus the key on which it is installed, represents the true value of your software. To lose the USB key is to lose the use of the software on which the licenses are installed. Take special care of this USB key

c/r doesn't help either. the best protection these days seems to be either a syncrosoft elicenser or dongle or no protection at all, but a great product and a good value for money.
don't make you dependend on the warez crowd! It'll make you sick and paranoid and you can't win: just ignore it and try to make the best product possible and give a good support! You'll have a lot of happy customers, who spread the word.
cheers,

Well, v1.0 was cracked anyways, so I know I cant win. I think the good recipe for success is a good product at the right price point. That's why we'll sell v2.0 for $59, which should be affordable for masses...

BTW, one thing I have observed after v1.0 was cracked: First I was really furious that is was cracked, but then the sales did not suddenly stop. They were already at a really low level, but they stayed at the same level, and maybe improved for a while afterwards...

Look , a warez user never thinks "I want SynthMaster , but it has not been cracked , so I'll have to buy it" . If it has not been cracked they will download another one that has , but will never buy anything . That's it , we are different people . They always steal and we never do , there is no grey zone .
