I agree with everyone - CR wont change anything, Synthmaster will get cracked again anyway and you won't get even 1 more buy than without it.
On the other side, the serial number protection will win you some extra buys.
As the others said, warez collector won't buy Synthmaster because nobody cracked it, they will download Omnisphere instead.
Ignore the warez scene, they are not worth it.
PS: I'm really excited to get my hands on the beta, from the description I received from your e-mail looks like something and for 59 it's no brainer!!!

How about Watermark? Or maybe a little Monkey that comes with it that drinks Guinness and bites your fingers off if you use an unauthorized version of it?

Wow, looks like everyone is in favor of serial number copy protection.
Then, I should seriosly consider switching to it...

Dongle or serial n° here.
I wont be able to reinstall Giga on my new PC because it uses C/R and the company is out.
So, for me at least C/R is the worst solution.

I certainly don't understand software development, but why is it not possible that only a legitimate serial will work. Anything that is not sent from the developer mutes sound or whatever. That way if you found the serial distributed, you could make a special visit to the holder of that serial. Or maybe just ban them or take legal action. Again, no idea, just typing out loud.

I guess you are talking about something like "watermark" , as WilliamK does with Wusikstation .morelia wrote:I certainly don't understand software development, but why is it not possible that only a legitimate serial will work. Well, crackers crack the code that checks your serial number, and hence they write "key generators". Developers might go one step further and do some further checks during synthesis, not at startup... We tried that, and we muted the audio if the authorization code didnt match.
They even cracked that!

Urs @ Uhe is on to something here i believe, & he said he was willing to share with other developers,kv331 wrote:Well, crackers crack the code that checks your serial number, and hence they write "key generators". hes gone about it in a way where he is trying to convert warez users in to paying customers,
at the end of the day, if there is a big Warez user base why not try to exploit that?
anyhoo, the sound of SM1 is amazing! SM2 can only be better

Honestly, I started to think, SM1 sounded really digital/cold. Hopefuly, SM2 will fix that with free running oscillators, analog "ladder" filters and the random "velocity error" parameter that will add a small error to incoming MIDI note volumesdjsubject wrote: anyhoo, the sound of SM1 is amazing! I must agree with everyone's comments here. It's only worth going for a Syncrosoft dongle or a simple keyfile / serial protection system. iLok and challenge response have been cracked many times.
But just some food for thought, people who use cracked copies will most likely not buy the software anyway, regardless of its price, copy prection .etc. Usually people that use cracks are people who can't afford to buy anything (students, unemployed) or people who think that they shouldn't need to pay for software (really stupid, but common).
Propellrheads do indeed use a serial only, as do ArtsAcoustic, Voxengo, Sonalksis, Kjaerhus, GForce and several more. These companies are all highly respected and I assume doing reasonably well since they have been around for a while and are talked about everywhere (most artists I talk have purchased and are using their products).
I personally can live with C/R protection if the policies are reasonable. For example, Celemony has an excellent C/R system, you can de-activate installs, email the company if your drive dies for a manual de-activation .etc IK Multimedia and Ableton on the other hand, force you to contact customer support for all C/R queries if you have re-installed more than 2 - 3 times. There also needs to be a provision for a permanent response code incase (god forbid), you go out of business or decide not to continue development anymore. Customers are comforted knowing that there won't be another Superwave fiasco.
Hope this advice is helpful. All the best with v2

SM1 is great for "tearing" "ripping" leads & basses far from cold IMOkv331 wrote: Honestly, I started to think, SM1 sounded really digital/cold.
