hope you guys like it despite the somehow non typical use of this lovely string machine.

EDIT for just a clarification: Melody, pads,drones etc are all pure SDS (I've used some EQ,comp, delay on those tracks though). Guitar plays only some sparse notes here and there.

Don't turn SDS into a do it all String Machine.

Keep it focused on a Solina emulation. Emulate other String Machines later.

Finally I was able to finish a quick demo. It's not very good because I made it while commuting to/from work in about a week.

But I hope it demonstrated the great quality of this instrument.

Other instruments used: ARP2600V, EMS Synthi AVS, Korg Minipops 7 samples in Kontakt, and Cockos ReaSynth.

You used the AVS for that, I assume.

Well done, sounds good. You've even got the electronic sea-gulls in there! The strings sound good here too. If I was going to be picky — but meant in a helpful way — maybe a bit of tweaking on the attack of the sound. It sounds like it has a fast decay before the sustain sets in, like an aggressive bowing on real strings but maybe the original is like like, I'll have to re-listen. The phaser still doesn't sound quite right to me but the only one I've heard that does is the one on the Solina string demo for Reactor (sorry, too lazy to find link) but I'm informed that this is part of Reactor anyway.

Next task is to use these sounds to create some new music in the 'style of' JM Jarre

Just some info: The seagulls patch is from the ARP2600V. This patch is from the original hardware 2600 patch book. The seashore patch is from the Synthi AVS. I assume JMJ used his VCS3 or Synthi for it. I'll post the patches here when I come home.

The oscillators of the SDS are the best emulation of the divide-down oscillators I heard. When I was designing Reaktor's Solina and Eminent, I was trying to get them right for several months (yeah, they are mine

) but the waveshapers of the SDS are better. The envelope is different, though, for the reasons I explained in a message before.

The phaser of the SDS is excellent (liqih please don't forget the FX version!:-)) but as liqih said, it is based on another unit (listen to Tangerine Dream in Phaedra, thanks for the info liqih) than the EHX Small Stone that Jarre used and it sounds different.

By the way, I ride the metro train to work

That's great, thank you. I've just taken a look at the price of the ARP2600V and Synthi AVS and I'll have to put those on the back-burner for now unfortunately. It would be nice to have the patches though in case the price drops or something in the future.

I hadn't realized you were the same person who created those. I played your mp3 several times as the sound was so accurate.

Right, I understand.

I'm actually getting way ahead of myself on this forum looking at all the plugins and sample libraries as I've yet to get a keyboard, DAW and sample player (kontakt). The last recording I did (only as a hobby) was in 1995 with my Korg O1/W and a Yamaha MT8-X cassette-based 8-track! Things seem to have moved on a little bit since then

Yeah you see him playing a lot with his VCS3 on the Oxygene LiLR DVD.

Thanks for the patch. I'll send something over as well if you want, got hundreds of awesome AVS patches.

great Demo allienmachine, you deserve your free SDS license,

but I liked the other mp3s as well, so I will set up a page for SDS users tracks (including users of SDS Demo) and then once a month I would pick up a winner for a SDS license.

High praise indeed. I loved your demo and several other ones here. I think Luigi has really hit the sweet spot with this plugin
