OK, here it is! The poll for best Crystal only track.
See thread ... http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0
Please try and listen to all the tracks before casting a vote ... I know it takes a while, but its the fair way to do things ...
However, I hope I've done enough to make it as easy as poss, and I can safely say that the standard of entries has resulted in a collection you will want to listen to!
So here's how!
Go to the online folder .... http://onesynthcomp.4shared.com/
Here you can listen to individual tracks, and read accompanying notes re. what what was used in their making. You can download individual tracks as you wish.
Alternatively, from the same link/folder, you can also download the zipped folder 'Crystal comp'. This will be a lot quicker than downloading individual tracks, You will then have all the tracks in one place to listen to at your leisure!
...and another option, kindly constructed by BrainOvulation, is an online streaming page. here it is .....
http://www.ilfungomagico.it/crystal.html
Reviews, however brief, are always welcome, but even if you can only find the time to add a short comment, then please do! ...it keeps the thread alive, and encourages others to listen/vote.
******Tattiemannies ( stuck record ) guide to voting******
A broad approach I would recommend would be to disregard genre and to some extent, production quality. Its more about how the artist an the chosen synth have produced the range and quality of sounds necessary for the track.
so .... we dont go asking "why no brass?" in a folk tune, anymore than we ask "why no soft pad?" in a punk track....... The idea from the outset is to create a track using only one synth..... and the proof of the pudding is about how that challenge has been met, so it's not about the merits of the synth, nor the merits of the track, it's about how the artist has shown that the limitation of using only one synth, does not necesarily limit their ability to produce a quality track, in a style of their choosing.
So I suppose what we're looking for as a yardstick is the "wow! you did that whole track with one synth and hardly any effects????????" factor ...
.... but thats my take on things .... feel free to apply your own criteria when casting your vote.
But primarily, ....Enjoy the music!

Well done to everyone but, IMHO, this was a no brainer to give Jon Boyd the vote on his sunburnt rats.
Jon has really shown off the power of Crystal here to produce lush soundscapes and totally unique noises that are not the territory of more common VA based synths. Out of all of the tracks, I think his exemplifies this to the best - hence my choice.
Crystal is an odd fish of a synth capabale of many things. It was great to dust it off and get my head around it again.
Cheers,
Mouxbar

My vote goes to Tattie's little masterpiece. Quirky and extravagant. Excellent composition. Great work!

Whoah! I just thought of an interesting way to get more voting in this thread! Instead of the title, "Best crystal only track?" , we could change it to, "Synths: which sounds the phattest????", and instead of our track names, the options could read, "analog, digital, va...etc." I'd even volunteer for my track to be called "fish".
Some dude is doing this very thing and has gotten 5 times the amount of votes within a few hours than we've got in the past 18 hours!

Uploading some seconds of a particular music style is not much different for me...
I'm between tattiemannie and MadPsyance, not sure what to vote...
I'll vote for MadPsyance if I see his track not getting much support.
"Not Dead" is definately one of the most addictive tracks I have heard this year, though.
MP, please come to Greece!

Wow, still cant for the life of me decide how my vote is gonna go!
I think I'm gonna listen to them all one more time, and tomorrow morning I'll open up the folder and ask myself which one I want to listen to above all the others.
At the moment, I'm strangely attracted towards MajorBloodnoks 'Free Form' because of that thick rhythmic nasal sound which seems to say "Get out the house if you want to grow fat!"
Anyway, plenty time yet!
Just want to throw another idea into the mix re. next/future comp though.
I've been playing around with 'SFXR' ... a standalone game sounds synth.
http://www.cyd.liu.se/~tompe573/hp/project_sfxr.html
I'm thinking it might be a nice diversion from the rich sounds we've been dealing with over the last couple of comps.
It's a cool source/creator of 8 bit samples. If there are no major issues re. how we play these samples back into our tracks, then I think we might have a comp which has a good blend of restrictions and possibilities! ... just a suggestion .... be interesting to hear some feedback.
