OK Folks, I've been authorised to talk about this now...

Some time ago a chap wandered into kvr looking for a developer, I answered. It took a while, a number of iterations, ladida.. But it's here!

What is it?
MIDIMadness - an algorithmic melody generator, that operates as a standalone program or VST plugin. Currently PC only.

See it at http://www.midimadness.co.uk

Do note - I am only the developer; marketting, business management, etc is being handled by the original bloke (aircut007 here). Comments, questions, feature requests, etc should be routed through him, preferrably via the email contact on the website (info@midimadness.co.uk). You can post here as well, I'll forward him the link to this thread.

It's a MIDI event generator, and makes no sounds in itself.. err, go watch the video demos :)

This is something that I'm very pleased with, in it's development I had to solve a variety of math, protocol and format issues, keep a compact and pleasing interface, etc. It's been a lot of hard work, but it's done and it's out!

i have seen his tattooed hand thru a ship porthole :)

vid 2 title reads 'madenss.'

"Complexity-Miniaturisation-Duration paradigm" :)

the medium is the message! instantaneous realisation of the set of ideal potentials instead of instance.

if this continues, it may be necessary to redefine musical product and thought!

That's something that I've heard quite a few people talk about for some time. Would be interested to see what algorithms generate the MIDI.

Actually I remember someone saying that something like this would be good to feed into Synplant...

rurik, if you weren't 6000miles away, I'd hug you.

i don't want to one-up anyone, i've been interested for a while..

a musician/someone sufficiently involved in the vocabulary of interval and timbre can appreciate the effect in this form.. the continuity of instant variations "creates a language" of 'format' or 'mode,' ~moving the consideration to systemic analyses instead of instances. exposure can change the way you listen.

then, do it with words.. language.. most peoples' medium of cogency.

not just once or twice like an ad lib book, but all day, until human expressions are weighted against the stochastic. people already think i'm crazy so i can casually intimate that this is the imminent global technologic kundalini flowering :hihi: imo it should improve polycultural relations at least.

this is my perspective :)

since you've probably been listening to randomisation continuously, the variations sound good. 6000 miles and growing rapidly!

Must confess [in a non-Inquisition kinda way], I did think of shoggoth when Jim first asked me about it, but his needs were different to what you had done. Always had a great repsect for your algo stuff, you defo one-upped me before I even started ;)

I was a little concerned when Noatikl came out, but their approach is different..

blimey, are you vurt's long-lost-love-brother? he goes about telling us that 'music isn't what you hear, it's how you listen'

..extreme weather will give you exposure, so extrapolating, 'extreme weather can change the way you listen'

recalling your winning entry to DC07 and the weather emulator, we can extrapolate further 'extreme xoxos can change the way you listen'

QED?

Glad to see someone not just testing the waters but following all the way through. Hope there are more folks who are this serious. Always nice when new directions get explored.

midimadness seems more accessible and desirably organised than other algo platforms (that's without appraising the algo..) (i've probably been in the same position for 7 hours now.. sooo.. further expression on my part inadvisable)
