..but I can't find a way to tap tempo directly via a MIDI message (note or controller).
There's a MIDI assignement that opens the Tap Tempo dialog box, but this is not what I need. I just need to tap in a new tempo while I'm playing, for the delay to sync with the new tempo - no dialog boxes while I'm playing, thanks! You get the picture...
As for the rest, being this my first post here, let me add that I'm very happy about Cantabile.
Last week it was the first time that I used it in a live concert, and I felt just a bit uneasy to let all of my precious signal go through the vagaries of a PC laptop, but everything was rock solid and it all worked like a charm. A wise buy!
Now, if only I could find a way to tap in a new beat...

Pretty sure it's not just you... but want to make sure I understand what you're suggesting correctly. I think what you want is the ability to dedicate an external button/note as a tap tempo button and rather than have to enter a special tap tempo mode (as per the current assignment) you just want it to automatically adjust the tempo whenever you tap on that button.
Sounds like a reasonably easy thing to add. Would you want it to immediately change tempo on the second tap, or would prefer it to wait for say the 3rd or 4th tap before starting to adjust things?
Glad to hear you're otherwise happy with Cantabile.

Hi Brad!
Thank you for the prompt reply. This is what I call customer support, the kind you usually experience with folks like Nebula's Giancarlo or Reaper's Justin, among a few others...
Yes, you've got it right. That's exactly the feature I'd like to have in Cantabile. There's something similar in Ableton Live, or in several hardware delay pedals, for that matter.
I believe it would be great if the new tempo could be set from the third tap on, possibly averaging all the previous ones.
BTW, here's another (minor) request: I managed to patch some elaborate send-return routings between racks using third party free VST plugins, but nevertheless I wouldn't mind one or two more built-in send busses (making it a total of three or four). Surely it would simplify and streamline my routings, and probably would be easier on the CPU, too.
Again, thanks Brad for a great program and for what looks like an even greater support!

Thanks for confirmation on the tap tempo thing... it's a good idea and on my to-do list.
2 more partial sends is easy to add but I'm a little concerned about the amount of UI space it would occupy - particularly in the menus. Also I need to check if there's a performance impact there... can't remember off hand. Never-the-less I'll look into it.

Build 2042 (available now) introduces a new MIDI controller assignment under Metronome - Tap Tempo Direct. Assign any note or button controller to it and tap away - tempo should start updating on third tap. I can fine tune to responsiveness of it if need be, let me know how it goes...

Hi, Brad.
Thank you for your quick response to my request for a MIDI direct Tap Tempo command.
I believe we're almost there: everything works as I expected, but there's still just a minor bug: after you haven't tapped tempo for a while, sometimes the program considers the first new tap as the second one of a very slow tempo and averages it with the current tempo, often with a sudden jump.
My proposal: if there's no tap input for, say, 2 or 3 seconds, the average calculator should reset itself; then the following tap begins a new averaging cycle. In this way the new tempo will set in only after the "new" third tap.
I hope it's clear, as english isn't my first language...
Thanks again for your dedication.

Currently the calculation resets after 5 seconds. I can easily change it down to 3 if you think that would be better.

Yes Brad. You were right: the counter resets itself after 5 seconds, I didn't notice that.
Actually I think 5 seconds is a bit too long: it corresponds to a BPM of 12, and the lowest tempo Cantabile can go at is 30 BPM (= 2 seconds between the beats). So, maybe it makes sense if the counter resets after 2,5 - 3 seconds, what do you think?
Thank you.
