That's all it is. It can be in the lead, chorus, bass, chords, melody, anywhere. There can be variations of it through the song. There can be more than one in a song. It's just a part that's repeated. It's usually very short, even like half a measure.

The way I think of a motif is the smallest recognizable melodic or rhythmic idea that gives rise to larger amounts of material.

Most motifs are usually pretty short (2 to half-dozen notes) and provide a melodic or rhythmic "drive" to a track or composition.
