Nice rules.
But that means that there will be no 8bit instrument? Isn't SFXR only for FX?
Or we should use a sampler to get musicality?

I let you know by the way that I can't participate unfortunately... :(
I really want much, but I won't have any free time for a quite long period of time from now on... (my country's educational system wants me to study all day long for about one year in order to get into the university......)
Literally my free time today was the reading of the titles of the instruments section plus this post.
*blah blah blah blah everybody sing along*

Genealex, sfxr produces all sorts of simple ( yet interesting sounds ). Simply, you get a sound you like, export it to wav, play it via sampler in your DAW like you would a sample synth :)

Thats a real shame you wont have the time to take part :( .. Best of luck with your studies anyway .... I'm sure we'll still be here when you find the time to get involved again ... or when you work out how to combine KVR with some area of your studies :hihi:

Thanks for all your support so far, and hope you find at least a little time to keep in touch.

....nice to see those votes trickling in .... do we have a runaway winner??

More votes please .... this is a damn fine collection of tracks ( and Free Form is still my fave whatever the voting says!! :)

Just about got that participants prize ready to send out. The user guide has been written at last and should have been proof read by now, but I found myself suddenly playing with RepRatMulti when I should have been writing about it, and well, time flew by!! :hihi:
Should be able to PM the links a bit later today.

Post

OK, two bits of news ....

First, I am ready to give out the participants prizes.

Second, I have been in touch with Tomas Petter, the developer of sxfr..... and he told me something very interesting! ..... there is a ..... ( wait for it ) ..... Vst version of sfxr!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heres a link to check it out.

I've had a look, and and a play, and I dont know if I'll use it or not. It has no gui, and is therefore more awkward to use than the standalone ... but it works, and it might suit others to use it... and I dont see that would compromise or complicate things in any way.

Tomas also sent me a piece of music he had created with sfxr, but I dont feel at liberty to post the link without his consent .... I will ask though.

Right, before I send those prizes out..... What do you think about me launching the comp as sooner than Monday? .... and shall we set the closing date 3 weeks from launch again? Is that an OK timescale?

Post

Hmm ... any danger I could in some sick way sneak a few more votes since the title of my track parodies a work by the most talked about celeb at this moment in time ??

... I fail to see the Gordon Brown reference ... no matter ... if you're managing to scrounge some votes on some spurious pretext or other can I have one? Please.

Hey, I got a whole vote :!: Not bad for something I bashed out in a couple of hours and completely Browned the EQ/levels :hihi:

I should be able to be PM'ed now - for some daft reason I must have turned off...

Time spans etc. are fine by me on the SFXR proposal.

Thanks again,
Mouxbar

Started using this in FL and when I reopened the project later on, it no longer gave any audio output. Could be me, my rubbish setup or whatever.

Just a friendly to all warning to proceed at your own risk :!:

Cheers,
Mouxbar

.... ouch! thats a shame :( .... I'll try doing the same and see if I get the same result .... one thing tho, theres a min freq control ... handy for limiting freq sweeps, but a pain if you're not aware of it, and you find only the top few notes on the keyboard are sounding!

Post

....not long to go!!!! :-o

Post

.... even less time left to vote..... :hihi:
