Whoa! Over 130 velocities???
Let's see, I have velocity 0 through .... 127? Umm... am I missing something here? And someone, please, educate me on how I tell the difference between velocity 23 and 24? or 65 and 66? I'm usually the last person to say 'overkill', but I think I just found it. Eh, at least it's on a DW kit, I'll give 'em credit for pickin' some top quality kit.

im sure they both employ choke groups - but that doesnt produce the same sound hitting an already ringing cymbal does not sound like stopping one sound and starting another because of they way the hit is made
as for the 140 velocity layers - the snare has 4 hit types - centre, middle edge and side - controlled by the mod wheel - ie 35 velocity layers per hit type
by youll need a monster computer because most of this info will be in ram - cos hits are very short and frankly i prefer the idea of bfd where it has controls that fit its use - rather than a dull cryptic sampler screen

I'll give you that, but do you honestly HEAR that subtle difference? Good drum programming goes a long ways, and I've heard mighty impressive results with less. I'm not a drummer, so maybe that's the problem, but it seems a bit on the overkill side.ericj23 wrote:im sure they both employ choke groups - but that doesnt produce the same sound hitting an already ringing cymbal does not sound like stopping one sound and starting another because of they way the hit is made
Aha! Gotcha! That makes more sense now at least.as for the 140 velocity layers - the snare has 4 hit types - centre, middle edge and side - controlled by the mod wheel - ie 35 velocity layers per hit type

Hurrah, someone agrees with me (bet you didnt read my comments on page one tho Devon, cos u just saud the same as me
)
There is another alternative, get a real drummer in, and it will sound like a drummer, not an emulation
(and dont me that crap about shit drummers and timing etc, cos you 'real drum' programmers spend two weeks getting ya grooves to sound out of time

christ of course i dont hear it - well you kinda do if its been badly programmed but at least it is a reason to do it
but you know these things will just get bigger and bigger - wait till they get to every string and slide on a guitar sampled - thatll be a hardrive at least!

Oh I know. There's just got to be a point of diminishing returns. Do I REALLY want to take up 12 gigs for a drum set? BFD is bad enough. DFH2 looks worse. 35 gigs? Eesh.ericj23 wrote:christ of course i dont hear it - well you kinda do if its been badly programmed but at least it is a reason to do it

But you can bet we'll see more and more uber-gig releases as three or four dvds is the best dongle copy protection ever invented.
I think we'll all be ordering new mega disk drives before long.
There's something in this. My disks are getting pretty full these days, with less than 10% left on all three drives.Oh I know. There's just got to be a point of diminishing returns. Do I REALLY want to take up 12 gigs for a drum set? BFD is bad enough. DFH2 looks worse. 35 gigs? Eesh.

Can you imagine the pooor bugger who has to sit there and hit the snare 130 times for mic#1, then 130 times for mic#2.....
How does he know that hit #34 was just a tad louder than hit#33?
I think its all a scam, sampled from a drum machine, i mean who'd know?
