I'm sorry for overlooking this thread. Can you describe which presets exactly cause the issue? On Single Dual-core CPU the performance is usually under 50% with 8 voices.
There could be difference between Mac and Windows, while Windows have matured compiler optimised for speed, on Mac the compilers (and system as well) for Intel are still finetuning. We're continually improving performance as the tools are evolving.

Thank you for reply, it's interesting, we'll check it.
Can you describe you DAW settings you have on Mac OS X and on Windows (system version, software version, sample rate, buffer size)?

According to reports Mac OS X 10.5.7 should have improved performance on Quadcore CPUs in some cases, we'll check that and make comparison.

We had a couple of tests with not miuch different performance, it seems that generally the compilers on PC can make more out of the processor then the one on Mac, however, it was not so much different. However, I beleive you that on certain setups it might be worse. I'll ask Palec if he also got some more insight.

if it's the fault of "OSX compilers" why is it that this doesn't crop up with any other softsynths?

As i said, i believe you ttoz.
Mitch, think of that: About one our of 100 customers comes to us, telling us that of course there must be a serious bug in xxxx (place any product name of us there), because it immediately crashes when it launches in yyyy (take any host here), and (and thats it) because all other plugins run fine.
Now - I hope you still follow my thoughts
- make yourself clear that this is true for any manufacturer out there (we see this from the mails of customers telling us that products of zzz always crash and they are happy they found a manufacturer with reliable products).
You can easily adapt this to "why is products aaa so slow on machine bbb" etc etc. Of course this always looks way different to the one with the problem, he thinks that the rest of the world must see it the same, I understand that
But from that excursus about human perception back to terms: Palec will do some more checks when he is back again, maybe we find something.
