So I read that the 1.1.1 version of Ogun (VST) now has a randomizer and the ability to import AutOgun presets.

I've got a dozen or so really nice AutoGun presets that I'd like to import into Ogun. Problem is, it doesn't seem to translate correctly. If you enter a preset number in Ogun, you get a completely different sound than you do in Autogun.

So I see on the IL forum that the OGUN randomizer has 2 billion fewer presets.

So are they really different synths? Or will the Autogun data eventually be made to translate over. Autogun is really easy to use to blow through presets, but it would be nice to be able to tweak interesting stuff that you find in Ogun. Is this as far as it will go?

Could you give me one such preset number, so I can try this out?

Current favorite in Autogun is 8. Nice smooth pad sound.

Completely different in Ogun. (different name as well as a different sound).

But using any other random number gets different results as well (all numbers under 100,000 so far).

It sounds the same here, although the description is indeed slightly different ("Pure spirit 4 - Ginsu - Whistling." vs "Pure spirit 4 - Computer - Whistling.").

Could you make sure that you're using the latest version of both plugins? Maybe redownload them from www.image-line.com to make sure.

You're correct. I just noticed some new features on Autogun. I like how you can set the processing quality:

Draft
Average
Pristine
Huge Waste of CPU

Nice. A preset lover's paradise.

However, I just thought of this, and others might have too: If I take an Autogun preset and import it to Ogun, then tweak it, my tweak--no matter what it is--already exists in Autogun somewhere as an actual dedicated number.

If I then independently stumble upon that tweak in Ogun, then I'll have two differently named presets, but with the same parameter settings.

Weird.

It's not really a problem, though, is it?

Problem? Accessing 4 billion presets? In a FREE synth? Of course not.

I was just trying to get to grips with the statistical oddities involved, that's all.

Bottom line, I really like Autogun. Very easy to audition a TON of material and save what you like. Skipping through the presets in Ogun is a bit more cumbersome, so for my workflow at least, I like to use both.

That would be accurate of autogun contained every possible preset. But it doesn't - it contains "only" :) 4 billion, which doesn't begin to cover all permutations of all possible parameters.

Also, when speaking of numbers such as 4 billion - you can't really think of "stumbling" as a realistic event.
