I have a prototype of a brute-force spectrum analyzer.
It is based on Gammatone filter banks, and not on the FFT.
It uses more than 10% CPU on my machine. I thought this was ridiculous and beyond reasonable, I mean, just for a spectrum analyzer.
I think I might as well release it and surround it with some rationalizing glibberish ... :D

Where is the acceptance threshold level (cpu consumption wise) for such a device? Or is low cpu still the most important requirement?

I'm really interested in your opinion on that ...

nice weekend,

Hi Bootsy,

definitely yes! For rendering the "ultimate" reverb I would like to have it. With some automatic switching between playback and rendering mode it would be perfect for me. Playback: lower quality to hear what you're heading for. Rendering: full quality.

What?

Yes adopting the model where during playback it plays a lower quality but renders at higher one would be very welcomed.

It was already here. No need to do it again. Not in this thread. Ok? Do it in another thread if you are in the need :x
It's perfectly reasonable to state that - objectively - EpicVerb is a highly competent and useable reverb. Whether or not reverbs elsewhere are more "capable", that doesn't diminish the fact that EV IS capable and certainly has better-than-average sound quality compared to many other commercial software reverbs, let alone other FREE ones. Can we leave it at that?

I should write for Sound On Sound! (Don't hit me, Hugh. :hihi: )

Personal slant: I've sat EV along-side Reverberate + a Bricasti IR, and to my ears it actually adds further depth. Ableton's own 'verb doesn't stand a chance any more.

An important major update for the epicVerb digital reverberation simulator is (almost) done and will be released in the beginning of December 2009. It not only features some bugfixes and major stability improvements but also some re-worked algorithms which supports way more dense and three-dimensional reverberation processing.
