I'm lost. I don't get this software at all.

I've downloaded DC and Voice Controller. I can only see Voice Controller as a vst in Cubase 4. I don't find DC at all in Cubase even though it is in the same folder.

Any clues? Need more info?

Help!

Using...

Cubase 4
iMac Tiger OSX 10.4
MOTU 828 mkII
Synthesizers.com 66 space portable modular

Could you try a quick sanity check in Ableton Live (the demo's a free download if you don't have it already)? That's what I mainly test with here.

I just released v1.0.2 to fix the Cubase problems. PC Cubase users seems happy - would be great if you could try the Mac versions.

Your new version doesn't include version 1.0.2 of Silent Way DC. It just updated Voice Controller (which worked anyway).

Still no DC in Cubase.

I really need some help further than the manual on how to implement this software. Here is my thinking (let me know where I am wrong)...

1. create an OUTPUT CHANNEL (mono) for the audio interface channel output you wish to send a CV or Gate etc..
2. create an "FX track" for the Silent Way Voice Controller
3. create an "FX track" for the Silent Way DC
4. link the output of the midi track created in step 1 to the FX track for Silent Way Voice Controller. This step is where I am confused. Isn't the FX track itself supposed to output the voltages with automation tracks etc.?

I also really don't get the "Prefs" OSC Base Port thing. Any help here would be appreciated. I can see the envelopes firing and the pitch table moving in Voice Controller, but there is nothing happening with the outputs to my modular. I also don't get how to route the audio from the modular back into Voice Controller for calibration. All this is very cryptic and difficult to understand how to hook up.

I hope you don't have to understand the OSC stuff to use this. If so, count me out.

I don't much care for Ableton Live. I did try it with it but am having the same trouble. Something about how the routing to the MOTU audio interface.

If it will work in Live then it will work in Cubase. Thanks anyway.

Did you watch the videos/read the instructions on

?

There's a Cubase section there now.

OK.

I finally figured out what the problem in Cubase 4 was. It is to use an "insert" track. Also, the real trouble was the MOTU828mkII would only respond on the first 2 channels.

The output from the MOTU 828 must be in the output #1 or #2 only. I can't get it to work any other channel of the MOTU 828mkII. It could be something to do with the way MOTU uses channels 1&2 as the "MAINS" out puts. The numbers for so-called "outputs" 1&2 on the back are actually 3&4 in Cubase. This leads to an offset that tends to warp your mind. I don't even see a channel 5 on the list in Cubase (which is 3 on the back of the MOTU). Ugh!

Regardless of that snafu, here is how I managed to get Cubase to cough up a (halfway) working setup...

I set up an audio track with the synthesizer as the input and the mono channel #1 of the MOTU as the pitch c/v out (to the synth). I set up an "insert" in this audio track, choosing Voice Controller. Then I set up a midi track routed to the Voice Controller. Then I set up another audio track to pick up the synth output again as an input, and the output to my speakers for monitor.

Calibration worked good, but it is important to have the octave set to 8' (midway) on the oscillator before doing a calibrate.

I repeated these steps to get another "instance" of Voice Controller to set up a gate in channel 2 out of the MOTU. This works good but that is as far as I could take it with good results. I can't find channels (3-8 on the back of the MOTU) in Cubase, so I never made it to using envelopes.

Yes I did see that. Essentially the same ting as what I did. Thanks.

I think this is cool for someone without a midi interface for their modular. I can't imagine wanting to go through this every time I need to patch up. I'll just use my midi interface and set up midi channels in Cubase for that.

Pretty slick never-the-less.
