Silent Way Works with these analog synths...

This is how I got the new version up and running in Cubase:

1: get a stereo track

2: insert Voice Controller

3: Assign that tracks outputs to the sound cards outputs that will be controlling the synth

4: Set that tracks inputs to the input from the synth to the sound card.

5: Set up a midi track and assign it to Voice Controller

6: Arm the Voice Controller track so that it can hear the input to calibrate.

7: Once calibrated un-arm it so it doesn't conflict with playback

Job Done

I may have spoken too soon with regards to Sonar. It works fine when I'm just controlling a single CV channel (oscillator frequency), but I can't figure out how to get Sonar to route 6 outputs from Silent Way to the appropriate hardware outputs.

I tested energyXT 1.42 standalone, and that works fine. I've been trying to do the same thing inside Sonar, with Silent Way embedded in an eXT VSTi instance, but that isn't working yet either. I'll keep banging my head against this for a while longer, unless someone else comes in with the answer.

Are you using v1.0.1 (VSTi) or v1.0.2 (VST) in Sonar now?

If it really won't work, you can always use 3 copies of the plug-in on 3 tracks, and set each plug-in to output different signals on outputs 1/2. Then send them all the same MIDI.

I've tried both versions. It looks like the audio/MIDI routing in Sonar just isn't quite flexible enough to handle this. Close but no cigar. I guess I could look at this as the kick in the ass I need to start actually using eXT 2.5.x... Do my modular tracking in there and then arrange in Sonar.

Mybe it might be best to make the voice controller for vst a Vst Plugin rather than a vsti instrument.

That way you can have an audio input as well as an output, I'm pretty sure you can then control it by midi as well (could be wrong).

I'm rapidly coming to the same conclusion.

However, I need to be sure that MIDI control is possible of VST effects in Cubase. Can anyone confirm? Most of the recent Expert Sleepers plug-ins e.g. Augustus Loop, Little Spacey or indeed Silent Way DC can be controlled by MIDI, so please, someone test those and let me know if it works.

I had no problem getting vst parameter control of Voice Controller from automation tracks in Cubase 4. Works great.

Still can't get DC to come up in Cubase 4 though.

Sounds like your cables might be wired the wrong way round.

Try swapping the gate open/closed voltage settings in the Voice Controller i.e. 0.0 open, 1.0 closed (defaults are 1.0 open, 0.0 closed).

How's the pitch calibration? It should work reasonably well right now, but it will be improved by a dedicated Hz/volt mode (which I will try to do in the next few weeks).

NB the key word there is 'improved'. If it doesn't work at all now, it won't suddenly start working.
