i couldn't stand listening to the whole thing...
but thats a bit of truth you can pick your teeth with....
i wonder, who owns rights to that chord progression?

To answer your question, no one. Chord progressions cannot be copyrighted, only melodies can.

yeah i was sort of joking, but no doubt.. got to get this whole "playing music right" thing down... enough with weird music..... now i know the secret, if 36 songs can successfully use that same bit... f**k it, so can i.

Even though I used to really dig Coldplay, their tired chord progression that shows it's face nearly on half their tunes caused me to make a spoof song using it.

I | V | vi | IV progression must be in 80 percent of pop music. It's driving me nuts because I hear it all the time. In fact when I write music, I purposely make an effort to avoid it. Not that I don't like it, but because I hear it so often.

Ah, it's not the chords, it's the way you use them, altho I agree this one has been overused so much It's hard to make it good.
Another one is VI IV I V eg, Am F G C, in fact I think the video switched to It half way though :/
Chillis - Under The Bridge is definately major and the Offspring - Self Esteem is definately a minor progression.

As one of the other posters said - it's not the chord progresion that makes the song. But man - this link was enlightening!Marcus797 wrote:
are there any original chord progressions left?
I must admit that I nowadays find it a bit amusing listening to Bach, as most of his music is based on the circle of quints (just like every song on Alpavilles classic - but not "classical" (see other thread) - album).

I remember when I was about, 14 or 16, I found some little tiny pamphlet with chord progression formulas - I was a drummer and just not that swift on the uptake - and I recall the eureka or OMG moment, THIS is why all this music sounds the same to me! Here I was trying to make something up! Well... here I am STILL...
36 songs? Try 36 zillion.
