Considering purchase of MPS/Synfire

Audio Plugin Hosts and other audio software applications discussion

(Maybe this topic is wrong here, the considered program is not a "real" host/sequencer, if so: probably the mods may move it to a more appropriate board)

I'm considering buying the Cognitone Synfire Pro program.

Does anybody here have any experience with this (rather expensive) piece of software considering the workflow, stability and "quirkiness"?
Thanks in advance for answers.

Really? Not even one reply...?

Is the Synfire Pro still in the "Early Bird" beta stage?

Yes.
I'm not really sure if it fully fits my needs.
Particularly as it's still very expensive...
I'll at least wait for the demo.

Seems like a clever app but, at that price, it's not on my short list of "must own" apps. I doubt that I'd be interested in the demo either. Now if it were down below $400 I might give it a spin...

Post

Been keeping an eye on it since it's announcement as it looks very interesting, but at 890.00 euros I'm not even going to try it, just incase I do like it. Hopefully it will inspire some cheaper/similar alternatives

I did not yet see anything that compares to MPS. Unfortunately it's that expensive but iirc the author says on his website that he has been working on this software for many years, so I can understand him asking a hefty price for his work.
Still undecided whether to buy it...

I wouldn't buy something in this price range without a demo and some expert reviews...
You can't always get what you waaaant...

Wait for the demo, hopefully the early bird will still be available at that time.

890.00 €? What, did I break a window?

what is it you need from the software you use?
you dont give any specifications of what you want to do?

i dont know the program,so unless you tell us what you want to achieve and without a demo, its kind of hard to say anything

dont buy a expensive program,if you can do what you wanna do for a lot less
(hope you get my point)

making music isent easy

(even if the company selling the program say so)

I want to do scoring and thematic composition.
I think MPS would probably be a good helper application for this job. A demo version is available now. Of course I already installed it.
Will need some time to get my head around MPS/Synfire. It's a rather complex application that covers many faces of music composition and arrangement.
If it just weren't that expensive...

@stanlea: I hope to get some expert advice on this forum. That's why I posted my question. :-)

I'm very interested too about MPS/Synfire, I'm working in documentary films about nature and so on, but is truly too expensive!

i have the H N (Harmony Navigator ) the little brother from the same company.

while the musical compositional "help" is truly great, the
workflow is confusing and sometimes against all windows-standards.

unfortunately the workflow issues prevent me from doing anything useful
with it, except for doodling and collecting ideas.

That's totally fine for 99 euros, but the MBS for 890 euros, i
would be VERY careful to shell out the money and wait for the
reaction of other users as the OP did.

Especially as most that has been disabled in the DEMO of HN did not
work right in the full version, so the Demo did not help me to check
the usefullness of the whole software.

but the author of the software is active in communication
and really trying to help. this is a big plus, IMO.

I still did not fully get a hold of the MPS/Synfire demo... Some of the drag/drop operations in the program are somewhat whimsical.
On the other hand getting pleasing results is rather easy by just drawing figures on the screen and having MPS render them into musical phrases.
Not yet fully decided whether to buy this one...
