OK, thats my track uploaded! :)

Now gonna try get another one together :help: :hihi:

I dont mind sharing my samples ahead of closing if that helps anyone.... as I said earlier, it would be nice to compile a preset collection, so if anyone wants to contribute, I can create a folder to upload to.

Now heres a bit of positive stuff re this comp. I'm moving on with a second track, and I find that I have a percussion piece with 8 sounds, a bassline, a chord, and a 3 part piano/pluck/beep arrangement and a couple of strange sweepy kinda sounds playing together ... and the CPU load ( on this rather humble PC ) barely pokes its nose above 9% .... :o ... Right! I'm gonna build like crazy and try and thrash it! :hihi:

Post

Love the tracks Gamma and Tattie.

I'm still going to say that we can't make a kick out of the thing despite our best efforts though :P

:hihi: Seriously fun stuff.

Cheers,
Mouxbar

You may be right there Mouxbar :hihi: .. its certainly possible, but not with one sample.
Still, I grew to like my sine kick, so I left it as is :)

Well, thats the guts of my second track done, only prob ( if you can call it a prob ) is that I'm gigging tomorrow and Sat, and my ears have had enough for tonight .... so it might be a bit of a sweat, but I'm confident I'll get it finished in time :)

One more is up - an ugly little chunk of flotsam.

The name of this tune was inspired by my neighbor who I found hiding out in his back yard from his girlfriend "The red tornado" he said "I'm staying out here, the house is a bag of Armageddon"

Jon - lumpy forehead - Boyd

Excellent stuff njon .... cheers for contributing, and bigger cheers for persevering! :hihi:

Hey, well it's looking good! If I ( ...err when I ) get my second track up, then that makes at least six ... the same number of entries as the Synth1 comp ... so it's not as lonely as I thought it was goin to be :) ... Hopefully we'll get a couple more entries ... 6 days to go! .... plenty of time :hihi:

Well, gotta get to bed, gonna be away for the next couple of days, but hopefully I can read/post from where I'll be staying.

nite-nite!

Thanks. I got a bit dismayed when I heard yours and MA-Simon's as the sounds of those were really good and they were posted so early on. But I pressed ahead. I need to go download the others now.

And I think I've finally got a layered kick of sorts, not for the initial track, but for something that started life as a Deadmau5 rip-off to see whether that kind of treatment would work. I'm not posting it to the compo site as it's not done entirely using free plug-ins - I don't have time to convert the EQ, compressor and delay settings to the free equivalents (although there's nothing really unusual in the FX). It's all pretty short and sweet like the other one.

So it's here: http://web.me.com/chrismed/music/deathi ... mma-ut.mp3

(And having edited this post about ten times, I've discovered something about posting URLs - don't put spaces in them or all the text disappears)

Enjoy (or not)

Hi Gamma,

This is seriously up my street, great work.

A functional kick, fruity bass, bit of funk and you've even thrown in a bonkers break to keep my required level of strangeness in the mix 8)

As a fellow rule breaker, I salute you

Perhaps Tattie may take pity on you and invite the entry...

Best of luck all,
Mouxbar

Hi folks, I want to say I'm back on the case, but I came home to a leaking toilet ... its not pleasant, now in the process of fixing it .... I'll read properly and post a bit later.

Thinking about the ethics of allowing rule breakers a stab at the comp/vote etc ... personally I have a bit of tolerance there, but I dont think I can personally decide whether cheating is OK, and whether this makes a set of rules pointless or not.

I'll come back with a decision at some point, but I'm kinda swaying towards upholding the rules to the letter .... be happy to hear other opinions though :)

Thanks, good to hear.

FWIW, I'm not all that fussed about having this one go in for the vote as I didn't even try to use the free plugs - it was more of an experiment to see what could be squeezed out of a very basic synth by concentrating on the FX and dynamics. But I'm not against a bit of rule-bending here and there.

Cool Gamma-UT, I'll give your track a listen for sure, but I wont put it in the comp.
I've had entries in comps before which bent the rules, and left it up to the voters ... and I kinda feel that Mouxbars entry falls more into the 'bending' category. I'll explain if you like, but have a look at his confession, and i think you'll possibly agree he is making himself out more of a rebel than he actually is! :hihi:

Anyway .... 3days to go! ... and I'll have my second track ready by tomorrow night!

Post

Hello everyone,

I can see that the comp hasn't long to go now, infact it will be ending just about the time i'll be finished my new soundset for Predator so aswell as the 256 preset Sylenth 1 soundset that i have donated to any and all comps im now in the position to offer another prize in the form of 128 presets for RP Predator :) that's a total of 384 presets for 2 excellent highly rated soft synths.
I'll be working on the audio demos for the Predator soundset over the next week so i'll upload them and post the links here too so you can all hear the kind of sounds your going to be getting :)
I'll send the file to tattiemannie as soon as the bank is complete.

All the best

Rob Lee

I think my main issue was using onboard DAW EQ... naughty boy. :P

I'm going off topic here (sorry) but I've never really managed to "hear" any great difference between EQ's and I'm normally reasonably OK with this sort of thing...

As a question, can anyone recommend a good freebie EQ that I compare my onboard stuff with? Low CPU hit is also a must as my DAW stuff registers zero as it is always built in

I've played with a few before but always ended up shrugging my shoulders and thinking it was more a horses for courses kind of issue.

I'm sure some of you can put me right

Take care,
Mouxbar
