Do you find them useful?

Do you use them often?

What is the most/least you have paid for a sound font?

I have started to use them more and more lately. That way I don't waste all my time tweaking every little parameter and changing them all again later. And of course for all orchestra and brass stuff. :P
I've only used free SF's but don't think I'd pay for any unless really cheap. I think SF's have a stigma of being lower quality than other formats.

yes and yes
bought a gamelan orchestra collection a virus set and a sitar (and downloaded free ones like mad) back when all i had was vsampler2,soundforum synth, and simsynth standalone.
then came vst's and the sf2 started to gather dust.

but now theres crystal 2.4 with sf2 import, the exceptional sfz+ and whatever the synth rgc is cooking up for 2004.
oh yeah...I almost forgot the sampler in orion5

A1: yes, almost any time I need a sample. I use EXSC and VSampler to convert formats where appropriate, too.

A2: yes, it's my preferred sample format, and sfz+ is my preferred player (I also havee sfz, VSampler, LiveSynth Pro, Fruity SF player, and an SB Audigy 2).

A3: Least: free Most: so far, $60. If it's a sample I want, and if the quality is comparable to Halion, then I'd be willing to match Halion prices.

No, I meant that if the same care went to preparing the soundfonts, and they carried the same quality - then I would be willing to pay comparable prices.

Soundfonts are a very sophisticated sample format that unfortunately suffers from way too many low-quality and dubious-copyright font banks floating around. Really good players (like sfz, sfz+ and xs-1) can show off what good-quality banks are capable of.

We appreciate the feedback.

We may consider some Bela D Fonts (Diva, Voices of Faith, Voci, Bela D Bass - etc) if there is enough interest. :help:

It would be very nice to have the possibility of purchasing on-line individual patches as soundfonts. Sometimes I prefer this rather than buying the whole CD's, it's usually a good and not very expensive way to taste the quality of the sounds.

The most I have paid for a Sound Font is nothing

The most used is a variety of Piano type ones and also home made sampled ones.

I use them a lot since the introduction of SFZ+

Bela D Media:

I'd much rather see vsti's of your intruments instead of soundfonts. Soundfonts still need a player to load into a host sequencer. A vsti would let us avoid the need for the loader, without the limitations of the soundfont format (no release samples, no separate sustain samples).

The lease paid: free
The most: $39 (for a piano that turned out to be very limited.)

I'm sure NI could do a Kontakt version.

However, see my sig. It's probably the #1 reason why I haven't ordered GPO yet.
