It sure does but if you would like to send me your track archive (Cubase SX3 XML) I will have a go at converting it and then you can decide if the results are worth the $39.LoopyFruit wrote:Hi

Can't ask fairer than that.
BTW Don't send me the audio files just the xml probably best to email it via the web site http://www.aatranslator.com.au

Hi I'm new round here and am another one of the developer of AATranslator.Runaway wrote:Thats true - there are only so many hours in a dayUltraJv wrote:Dosnt translate Nuendo directly even under XP, looks like u have to convert to an intermediate file format.![]()
We import OpenTL which Nuendo can export.
Cubendo was a nightmare and so was PT although that's just about sorted for it's first release. From there we will expand the functionality based on demand.
I guess its confusing because NPR isn't listed. The interface is confusing. It dosnt see any of My Nuendo .NPR projects
The Cubendo support that runaway mentioned is the Steinberg Track Archive format and compared to what Nuendo native NPR offers, has some major advantages. We have worked on this loads, and it works well, we are able to read any Cubase "tracks" SX3 or later & ones from Nuendo 2,3,4 (prob 5 but not tested yet. Now a session format like NPR will be more limited in that a newer vers of Nue will create a file that not surprisingly will not be understood by an older vers.
BTW these track archives have a .XML file extension so in AATranslator you would select XML to import them.
We are going with PT5, it does all that OMF2 can do and has a real advantage to PT users they don't have to spend $800 to be able to read OMF's. And OMF's are far from a standard item so do not expect an OMF from Logic say to be readable in PT.Is PT 6-8 not possible, I'm assuming? Or can OMF be added somehow?
Re PT 6-8, apart from digi going to great length to protect anyone foolish enough to want to deviate from the true Avid/digi way, the info stored in PT is so radically different to other DAW's there is no practical way to get both clip based & track/timeline based info to translate across. Eg in ProConvert (the people who deciphered the ptf format, one has to choose either to translate clip gain or volume automation when going to PT, you can't have both.
So as the essential clips/regions on named tracks with markers, fades and levels is possible using any recent vers of PT that seems the way to go, IMO.

Yeh, sure no one wants to use PT vers 5, but that's not the reason we have have added it (er, I'm the UK part of the AATanslator team, BTW)sockofgold wrote:Pro Tools 5??? Not trying to troll or anything, but why bother with that? Is anybody on Earth using version 5 any more? Or is just kind of a "one-version-at-a-time" kind of thing, where you will slowly and steadily make your way to current versions?
Thing is PT5 offers all that OMF2 can do, but doesn't require you to spend £800 for OMF support.
The good news is digi do give the possibility to export & import using previous version of their session format.
In converting from a PT concept to what everyone else does is always going to be a compromise. Eg the fact Digi is wedded to all files being mono and all the other DAW's do stereo interleaved files & mono too and that PT automation is track/timeline based everyone else offers far more, means in any conversion to PT one has to drop/compromise some of the host app's capabilities, sorry that is just the way it is!.
Some things to bear in mind
It is unrealistic to expect everything in a session/project to be the same on a 2nd computer, even if you are using the same program on the 2 machines!
Unless the 2 machines have exactly the same plug-ins, sound "card" CPU, configuration etc etc.
The DAW interchange formats like AES31, OMF, AAF concentrate on the Essentials: - eg correct part/clip/ region on the right named track & markers/cues too if possible. For all the non-PT systems that have clip based gain and pan etc, translate that as well. Fades, volume & pan envelopes, yes but there are loads of ways of specifying these so they may not be 100% the same.
But when it comes to other stuff in a "native " session format IE routing, plug-ins, FX sends/returns, MIDI, delay compensation. Trying to do this leads to madness, every DAW & every users set-up is soooo different this is just not a good idea.

PT5 support is great news gents. It's the most basic compatible option we have for getting things in and out of Protools, save for the v7 fun ProConvert provides.
Will we be able to create Protools 5 sessions as well ?
Apart from that, what kind of options will you provide for the dual-mono material on stereo tracks of Protools sessions, when translating to something like Nuendo or Reaper ?
Reaper's as daft as a door knob on dual mono files. Loooots of work to fix those darling dual-mono files. Mind you, Reaper doesn't have good internal video support yet, but that's bound to change "real soon(tm)". Then it'll be off to the races for fx editing.
An interesting option for Reaper->Protools5 would be to 'apply-fx' all the items, or consolidate-export with your tool. If that's a bit beyond the scope of the converter, then a good hint on how to go about effectively getting complex material out of the application, Reaper in this example, would make a handy addition to the manual, if it isn't already there.
Glad you gents are stirring things up in the translation market. $39 is an instant buy. Keep up the good work.

Not that basic, IMO Airon,Ie most Post-Pro folk I know of, think OMF [version 2/ the latest one] serves their needs fine, well ProTools Vers 5 does all OMF2 can do & I think with not too much extra effort we can make Stereo files work ok too.airon wrote:PT5 support is great news gents. Getting PT to read, right, is proving pretty dam hard, to be honest, and we have to get that right 1st; (BTW, we would really appreciate some more PT5 files, no audio needed, you can save in any Vers of PT,5 or later, a screen dump of how it should look would be an extra +) looks like there are quite some variations of PT5's, so let us know which Vers you are Exporting from - and please send them to info@aatranslator.com.au)Will we be able to create Protools 5 sessions as well ?
Back to the question: I reckon we will do PT support in stages (as each bit of code is ready & good enough for public consumption).
Runaway is the guy to know for sure, he does all the heavy duty programming stuff, I merely test, suggest & moan.
So my best guess, import 1st - this will mean AATranslator can do a good conversion to loads of other formats.
Then after a lot more testing, Export, then ....
Most of this sort of functionality (splitting Stereo to mono, copy/caching Stereo Files), is in place, the tricky bit is getting PT5 In/Out good & solid enough.Apart from that, what kind of options will you provide for the dual-mono material on stereo tracks of Protools sessions, when translating to something like Nuendo or Reaper ?
I have investigated this quite a lot as far as formats we already do - see
http://www.aatranslator.com.au/ And my Vers 1.3 notes
Basically some DAW's Eg Reaper & Audition don't care a dam if a file is Stereo or Mono, Cubendo is a bit more "picky".
We certainly know enough about various formats to be able to supply PT with it's xx.L & xx.R files and all the other DAW's with the same Stereo file but in far more normal/er(?) proper Interleaved form.

Finally isolated the split stereo clips in the PT5 file
Just a bit of tidying up around track volume, track pan, clip lock and clip mute, finish the SD2 to WAV conversion as well as rejoining the split stereo files (.L & .R) and the import side is good to go!
Sounds like a lot - its not - all the hard stuff for PT importing is done.
We will then release a new version with PT5 import functionality and then (after a deep breath) start on exporting to a PT5 session.
Sigh......

To paraphrase runaway it is hard & dirty work but someone has to do it.
But guy's (both genders)we really do need a wider variety of PT5 files. Most of the testing is from PT8 on a Mac & PT7 on a PC. We really can't let this update out till we give it a through testing with more PT5 files.
So please send PT5's (No audio needed) to info@aatranslator.com.au
And a Screen grab would be VERY useful [PrtSc on a PC & Apple + shift +3 on you know what]

Its been a while but we now are confident that we can effectively convert a ProTools v5 session to Audition, Reaper, Samplitude, Vegas, Cubase, Nuendo, etc, etc, etc.
We are doing some last minute testing as well as looking at sessions containing video and also 'PlayLists'.
Not long now before we do another release.
Be warned anything connected with the word 'ProTools' demands an automatic increase in price and AAtranslator will be no exception.
Anyway, we will get this out very soon and then we will start on the export to PT, then Acid, Sonar and an ever increasing list of DAW format requests.

How good is that ?
Working with Macs & PT5 - ya just wanna stab yourself in the eye with a fork just to relieve the pain
We will probably be putting out a 'limited' PT version (import initially) of AATranslator in a few days. The plan (cunning in its simplicity) will allow buyers to import PT5 files for the current $39USD price but the PT function will be limited by a relatively generous track/clip/audio file limit.
But wait there's more
We will also throw in Sony Vegas XML import support as well (thanks Mark Wippey (UK) for his request and input). The Vegas XML has much more detail than the Vegas EDL/TXT.
Additionally, there are a heap of improvements too numerous to list.
Much better than throwing in a set of steak knives and a block of flats in Tasmania

Our next release of AATranslator is very nearly ready for release. Just trying to finalise some on screen help and then we are good to go.
This release will see the addition of a Vegas XML import functionality and the ability to import a ProTools (v5) session file from both PC & MAC.
Those who purchase before the next release will receive this amazing and useful piece of software for only $39USD including free upgrades.
When released the current $39 discounted price will end and the price for the 'standard' version will return to $99USD.
The 'standard' version will have one limitation which is a restricted PT track count.
The 'enhanced' version will have full PT access and soon after an export to PT function. The 'enhanced' version will cost an additional $49USD.
If you are thinking of purchasing this software I urge you to do so before the next release while you can still get it for the bargain price of $39USD.
