Tattie, one of these months we gotta use one of your synths! All the effort you put into making these competitions work, it would be the least we could do. :band:

Am I the only one who can't find a Galileo download link on KVR or the MaxSynth page?
I'd like to try it before I decide. Gonna download Felix for now and see what it can do. I'm still VERY saddened that we can't do a SQ8L challenge though (as an FL user in particular :hihi:  )

Try:

http://maxsynths.altervista.org/galileo.html

It's rather nice IMHO and very low CPU which is even better.

As to what we pick, I'm neutral - happy to play with anything. Perhaps do Felix and Galileo in order? As Max is being kind enough to do a bit more work on it I think we should respect that.

On to the synths with no instructions on the knobs, there are a few about. Vurtbox at Krakli springs to mind and also some Russian thing I remember playing with the demo of some time back. So it has been done and, to be honest, is a pain in the :-o

As to Sq8l working in Fruity, somehow everything seems to work great in Fruity. It's all those other DAWS that seem to have problems.

Right, that's the parrafin spread. Who's got a match? :hihi:

Regards,
Mouxbar

There is also the Insertpizhere synth Mr Alias, which has hidden labels but it doesn't matter because it's so unpredictable. Cross-platform too.

There was already a contest for Mr. Alias 2...I tried but found it's unpredictability off-putting. It would be my go to instrument for random harsh digital industrial noises though.

OK, its all over! and it looks like a tie between myself and MA-Simon! So congrats to myself :hihi: and MA-Simon...
 :band: :tu:  :hihi:

So what to do now? I dont suppose it's that important to have an outright winner, only if we want the same prize!

As I've said earlier, I dont want to devalue the prizes or the generosity of the donors, but if Rob and Max are cool with the idea of giving two winners prizes ( if indeed we both want the same one ), then no need to pfaff around with tiebreaker, and fair method of deciding etc.

By my own rules re. prize allocation, http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0 ... there will be 2 runners up prizes in addition to the winners if we choose not to tiebreak ... thats one more prize than would have been given if there was an outright winner.

Fortunately, we have a clear 3rd and 4th place, So well done to Gamma-UT and Mouxbar ... you will have a choice of prize when the winners prize issues have been ironed out.

Unfortunately, as I understand, MA-Simon is on holiday .. back in 3 or 4 days, so you're gonna have to wait!!

..... OK, next on the agenda ........................
I think it's fair to say we've narrowed down to a straight choice between Felix and Galileo. They both look right for this comp, so I'm happy with the suggestion that whichever we dont do next will be the one we do straight after.

MadPsyance, Thanks for the suggestion that we use one of my synths ... well appreciated :D ... I am of course happy to go with that, but on the same conditions as we choose any other ... ie. a show of support among potential participants.
Gamma, there has already been a Mr Alias comp.
In connection with both of the above issues though, you may have read in another thread that I have proposed a joint insertpizhere/tattiemannie tools comp, with a cash prize, for xmas! :)
.... So Felix or Galileo next? I propose we do Galileo purely to be timely in our recognition of the support Max has given, not only in terms of offering a prize, but in engaging and participating in the thread, and going that extra mile by updating the synth exclusively for our purposes :)

... Anyone?

I know, I was in it (the song is under the name Aka as I couldn't think of a better nickname in time).

I actually got music out of it (of a sort). It's like an instant Residents machine at times. And a beaten-up DAT recorder in a bad mood at others.

It was actually 'Sun Ra' which sprung to mind for me .. ever used that one? ... or 'meddle'? ... wacky beasts which defy all understanding ... but amusing nonetheless!

@K-Bee: sorry for that, I've submitted Galileo to be add at the KVR database several times, but without any luck  (I'll give it another try in a minute or so).

@Slugfest99: "As Max is being kind enough to do a bit more work on it I think we should respect that." Well I had some things to fix, so has been a pleasure, no problem if another synth is on the list! :D

@Tattiemannie:

I think ex-aequo winners are fine, so it's ok for me :D

To tell you the truth, I was actually aiming for a sound halfway between the old BBC Radiophonic Workshop stuff and Joe Meek's very odd sci-fi album. The track didn't have quite enough clangerness in it to do the full BBC effect though.

Galileo's fine for me - assuming it plays nice with Wacvst (or I'll just have to do a Boot Camp job on the laptop).

No problem, I have it now! :D
I tried accessing your site from work earlier today but our corporate firewall blocks most sites of interest, enen music related ones (quite annoying since i work as a music librarian :x  )
ANyway, Galileo seems like a good choice for a challenge. It sounds great and shouldn't be that hard programming as the majority of controls are of a familiar type. Usual question is of course: what about them drums? but hell, they can't be harder to make than on Crystal! :hihi:

I would however also like to turn your attention to a whole different synth that we haven't talked about. Intro by Boris K
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1892.html
Haven't done much but checking presets and turning knobs so far but the sound is absolutely huge and could almost be mistaken for a hardware rompler or something like that. Unfortunately most presets are literally drowned in delay but turn it down a bit and you'll soon appreciate this vst as much as I (just started) to do.
It seems to be geared toward the trance producers (and that ain't me) but it's capable of so much more. It will take some getting used to though since a hybrid synths of sorts.
Just thought I'd mentioned as a potential contender. It shouldn't be ignored, that's for sure :)

Thats cool Max! I expect, based on previous correspondence with Rob, that he will be of like mind, so we can forget the tiebreaker ... :phew:

I'll still hold off on the prize distro til I can contact MA-Simon.

K-Bee, I'll check out Intro ... cheers for the suggestion :)

Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like we're flowing a little in the direction of galileo ...? and are we happy to make an uncharacteristically early decision re. Felix for the one after? ...or is it only me? :hihi:

A bit more noise on this/these issues, and I could roll out the next comp in the flick of an earlobe!

Meanwhile, I'm gonna compile that list I said I would compile of all the credible suggestions we have considered since the fist comp, and at the very least, keep it handy :)

Intro is a fantastic synth, anyway it's a little difficult to program :D This would be a good choice for a one synth challenge.
