Well my old computer died and I bought a new one. However, I was foolish enough to not back up all my files. Yuck.

I have all the .mp3's and .wav's on my iPod, but you know how iTunes is, it thinks you're a pirate if you have anything other than .mp4 on your iPod. argh.

Does anyone know how I can get the files from my iPod onto my new computer?

Muchos Gracias Hermanos,

I think Anapod Explorer will do it for you.

YamiPod... and then if your iPod is old enough, RockBox.

Such is my hatred for iTunes and the one-way nature of the iPod that I never actually used mine. After installing RockBox on it, I absolutely love it. I can simply copy files (.flac! YES, finally!) back and forth like it's a regular USB drive, organize them the way I want, play them.

I can't stand it when a device decides for me what I can and cannot do. In particular, I don't like it to tell me what I can and cannot do *with my own music* that I *wrote and recorded*. But really the dealbreaker with iTunes was when it erased 4977 songs off my iPod just because I plugged it into the wrong charging cradle. No prompt, no warning, no nothing. That was the end, I thought, and that damned iPod sat on a shelf in my lair for two years.

Then I discovered RockBox, and all of a sudden that old iPod is better than any portable music player I could buy today for any price.

IIRC, any ipod but the touch/iphone: mount as disk, show hidden files and folders, youl find one big directory with all the files with messy names like iuytwri65.mp3, rdsuo76rby.mp3, etc (there is also a bunch of apps to do it)

if its a jailbroken phone/touch, install ssh access
