MadPsyance wrote:Am I the only one who has a hard time with the kick/bass combo? I think I just suck at synthesizing kicks and it ends up having the wrong frequencies. Or maybe the synths in these comps aren't ideal for the good old psy kick that I'm used to? The low end has always been a pain for me once I started to notice it and try to incorporate it into my tracks...lol my old stuff from years ago had no basslines hahah!
Yup, I hit a few problems in this area as well. To be honest, you can still hear them :hihi:

I ended up layering two kick noises to get the sound I needed, one instance of Felix just couldn't quite get there for me.

I also found that I needed to duck the bass EQ at the kick resonance point as well to get a bit more clarity/separation of the sounds.

Best of luck,
Mouxbar

Hi Guys,

I knew I hadn't finished with Felix. Woke up this morning with mellowness on my mind.

So as Felix isn't suited to it... gave it a go :hihi:

A few hours later, Gentle Puss was uploaded to the site. Something different from my usual spiky stuff anyway :hihi:

Five Felixes all routed through one cavernous reverb at 90bpm.

A different side of the kitty anyway.

Best of luck,
Mouxbar

Yeah I always have to do that with the OSC's...when I used to work with samples I would hardly eq or compress anything...I would just pick the right samples and they gelled together without my help.

I have respect for anyone who can come up with music on such a short period of time. I'm a perfectionist sort of, although my tracks never meet my standards. I feel the need to be tweaking up until the very last day until the deadline. Your 2 tracks are like polar opposites..good job!

Speaking of cats:

1 minute and 51 seconds of pure kitty hell. :hihi:  :band: :band2:

Just posting that link again to keep it handy

Great stuff Mouxbar .... Now you have a set of core sounds, and still more than 2 weeks to go, I calculate that you will have at least another 7 tracks done by the closing date! :hihi:

Good to see some tip swapping re. sound creation .... dont forget you can use EQ and compression .. as long as they are freeware .... I freely admit that my kick lacks, well, 'kick' without the 'Blockfish' compressor.

My track is ready, but I'll wait a couple of days and listen to it with fresh ears before uploading it.

Wow glad to see Mac here ;)
I'm not following the thread in these days, I'm busy with the witch-hunting, but I'll listen to the submissions ASAP.

Fred I'm still trying to find a solution for your plugin ;)

Cheers,
Max

This is really funny!

Anyway no cat can sing like this (can you hear the sweeping sound at 192Khz? :hihi:).

Many thanks, as I do this for fun I settle more for output than polishing. In other words, a sound engineer I ain't

At the same time, I will try and make tracks sound halfway decent - I'm just not educated enough to try the whole Flood thing :hihi:

Going back to when my brother was making stuff back in the 1990's I'd also add that he ruined many a decent effort by buffing away at it for weeks on end. Maybe it was just me, but I often found a raw, more simplistic sound to be more musically enjoyable.

Too much of the early 80's in me I guess

Best of luck,
Mouxbar

ROFL - I have an RSPCA rescue kitty who can make a horrendous racket when she wants.... as she did at 5am this morning wanting to use the garden.

Hmmm, ideas, ideas 8)
