Definitely BFD/BFD2. It seems like it was always going to happen, but it's the only one listed that I own

It really is "the shiznit" for acoustic drums as far as I'm concerned. :band:

BFD is really cool but actually Ocean Way Drums was never something that was planned for BFD for a variety of reasons. The multichannel high resolution material of OWD will not work the same way in BFD as it does in Kontakt and because there was a lot of MIX work in Kontakt for the current OWD plug-in it is less likely that the MULTICHANNEL material will make its way into other multichannel plug-ins such as BFD... and Allen Sides and Steven Miller would have to do all new mixes again etc. I MIGHT be able to get at least one Multi-channel kit in there though depending on this poll! What I have a good chance of is getting a stereo mixed kit in there for free... but again, all depending on the demand.

For BFD though we have a lot of OTHER titles done specifically for BFD first in fact. There's a certain way to organize the samples that is totally different than how we've previously done it for Kontakt. So it is actually easier to organize it that way for BFD first and THEN do the Kontakt version based on the same hierarchy (since Kontakt is more flexible - it doesn't matter so much what the hierarchy of folders).

So, while we have "plans" for BFD to do a LOT of kits we only have one or two that are for sure and those will have to sell well, be appreciated and talked about for us to justify doing more. We used to just do whatever WE want and not be so concerned. But, I've learned that unless I want to work 24/7 for the rest of my life and the team's head spinning out of control we are doing the "test the waters" approach. It's a different world now where the customer is much more involved in what can be created just for them! Our forum is a chance for you to shape what Sonic Reality makes because we can't make EVERYTHING - there's not enough time in the day even if we want to. But we ARE a business so the goal (just like it would be in the music industry) is to have HITS (no pun intended) without selling out too bad! ;)

I downloaded kit 10 for kitcore on esoundz and it sounds awesome so I voted here for kitcore but I also use battery as well so count another vote for battery. oceanway people try to decide before aug 31, I have a $25 off coupon at esoundz I'd like to use with one of your kits. [/img]

I voted for bfd because i have it but it is not the best for E drums unless they add round robin support. Currently if you hit a drum a full velocity it will play the same sample over and over. Will they be changing this?

Otherwise it is a great interface and easy to configure custom kits. I have noticed that BFD kits sound smaller in mixes than OWD and Steven Slate drums in kontakt. Is that the sounds themselves or is some of it the BFD engine?

First, you can get a sort of round robin effect in BFD using the velocities themselves to switch out with each other. It doesn't work the same as in Kontakt but it can be used to accomplish more or less the same thing.

As far as sounds and engines - both of course can affect the character and performance of samples. As far as "big" vs. "small" I think that is too vague and subjective to really say one way or the other... not to mention it could be debated endlessly. But there is a difference. So in the end it is a matter of personal preference overall. I happen to like all of the formats but we do most of the material in Kontakt as a sort of "home format" since we license it for the Infinite Player. While we're limited in certain aspects of graphic design and can only do dedicated features that work within the framework of scripting and Kontakt's achitecture I must admit that I am quite pleased with the sonic results of what we've done in it. I mean, to be honest I am not a HUGE fan of the effects inside Kontakt. I prefer SampleTank's and BFD's effects. Although, besides some fun mangling which you'll now be able to do right inside of Kontakt as well as convolution with some really cool ambient spaces taken from some incredible studios the REST of my processing is done with products like T-Racks 3 Deluxe/Singles. I also have some other things like UAD but since that is tied to a card and I have multiple systems the TR effects are used everywhere. So, from that standpoint ANY of these formats running through TR effects can be pretty darn awesome. But, even so, they do each respond differently to velocity and have different shaping in tone and amplitude. As a keyboard player I am partial to having envelopes and things like that. But, I have just as much fun playing around with dedicated drum controls and I love the drum images with kit piece info in products like BFD... I guess because we like it all we're interested in doing it!

But... the issue still remains. We know what we like. It's a question of what you all want the most. That's probably what we'll end up DOING the most. Afterall, we do this for you guys not just to please ourselves. So keep voting!

How did you install it? I've installed kit 10 (as well as Submersible's free content) according to the instructions from Submersible, but the new kits aren't showing up when I run KitCore.

I had no idea Drumcore was so popular... Anyway, I'm going to have to vote for Battery. As excellent as it is as a drum sampler, it seems to be ignored by most third-party library makers.

I take it Ableton Drum Racks is not an option? (The library management is kind of annoying in Live anyway... Just thought I would throw it out there.)

When you download the kit and unzip the folder, you must take the folder that is INSIDE the unzipped folder and move it to the Pending Imports folder (or whatever the name is) as described in the Kitcore manual.

The first time I tried it, I just took the unzipped folder and moved it into the Pending Imports and it didn't work. Perhaps that's what's happening here?

As for the topic at hand, I've picked up two of the Kitcore kits now at Esoundz, and I must say that I'm impressed. I honestly feel that Kitcore Deluxe provides some of the best "bang for the buck" when it comes to providing no nonsense, straightforward drums.

That being said, the new esoundz kits are a cut-above the factory drum kits. The kits sound more realistic and detailed. If you run the Chicago Grtsch kit through a bit of compression, you can get an incredible sound. And for $15 (!!?)--that's cheaper and higher quality than submersible sells on their own site! If you own Drumcore/Kitcore, give one a try.

So, I'm glad to see Drumcore and Kitcore gettin' some love, and I hope Esoundz keeps making new kits for them.

Thanks for the help. It didn't work, I had installed them the way you said, but something weird is happening here on my machine. I'll just keep playing with it 'til I get it.

I guess I'm still the only one showing some love for drum replacers :(

Voted for DrumCore. Really like the free OWD kit. Very nice. Hope to see more made available.

Post

A vote for Drumagog (Buscemi, you're not the only one anymore).

Otherwise a vote for Battery (and then, Superior). I just wonder, will there be a huge extra fee for the possibility to use these OWD/Kontakt instruments in Battery as well. I recall with some libraries there is none (correct me if I'm wrong).

I would like to know this also because if there will soon be an OWD Battery library, obviously it would be a stupid decision to buy now the OWD that only works in Kontakt, and then pay extra for Battery support... Damn, I was just about to buy the Silver Edition...

Squids?

Post

Hey, the title of the thread gives no clue that a great drumkit is FREE!
Vote for the hottest babe ...yawn...
Date the hottest babe :-o  8) where is she? When do I pick her up?

See the difference?

I only say this because I remembered a couple weeks back stumbling on the mention of a free Ocean Way kit from Sonic Reality, I would have missed it, but luckily I clicked on a 'latest posts' sidebar link from Squids, always a good bet when trying to keep educated, and learn some audio history, there it was, a gold nugget of imense proportion, the free Ocean Way drumkit! :) Just register, login, follow the link, copy the promo code, click the redeem button, go to the free sounds area, download the kit, scroll down to find a link to download the player demo, experience high blood-pressure while waiting for the downloads to succeed, study the procedure for a successful install, discover empty folders were installed by the drag-n-drop procedure, and manually copy the sounds from the zip file, and at last :) :) fire up the Kontakt player, discover that windows uses different names for the same folder in different scenarios, making it a bit challenging to select paths during the Kontakt database update procedure...

But, hey, there it is, right there on the screen, a drum set so realistic, and mixed and tuned so well, that when I started playing it with the Coral beat from the free player, I actually thought I woke up my wife and heard her :X pounding on the wall because of the noise, and this through my oldskool Sony cans, the ones like dual football helmets strapped on your skull, with huge embedded subwoofer draining speakers inside :hihi:

It was 'just' the drums, but amazing drums they are. A little fiddling between midi channels and imap, putting a grip on the Kontakt way of doing things, and its time to ponder which beats to layer, press the record button, and practice the fine art of fingerdrumming !

So please, if you really want the word to get out, and your drums to get played,

1. Make a true announcement topic: FREE Ocean Way Drumkit!!! Spread the spam thick and wide, its world-class spam, after all :D

2. Put all the links and details, (including the 14th day price of your player) on just one page.

3. Drag the kit where you need/want it to be, find it with the player browsers, (it's why they have them :hihi: )

Done, and playing drums, and sales will surely follow.

Caveat: As industry insiders, you need to find out the sales figures for the top 5 percussion softwares that have yet to utilize Ocean Way drums. Times are too tight to trust a dodgy poll that gets discovered occasionally, compared to actually knowing the size of the herd, and focussing your time and talent where it will have maximum impact.

Thanks again for the great drumkit, its like Christmas in mid-summer 8)
