With all due respect Andrew but this app is still a lame attempt at anything that would be considered a real music making software. I also own Beatmaker and I love to see new music-making I-phone apps every now and then, but I don't see anything revolutionary in stacking loops over each other. On the contrary, an older app like Beatmaker is much more advanced than this app and it cost almost the same. And next time, if you don't want to make people angry you should hire people who know how to market your products properly. The main sentence in the trailer should have been "reinventing the music making on I-PHONE", then we wouldn't be so angry and disappointed. By marketing products like this, you only get bad rap for you and the company. I've studied Brand Identity for 2 years, and I know this is not the way you do it. I do not mean to offend anybody, that's just my point of view, but I feel like I was being lied to. One costumer less, 999 thousands more to go! Good luck.

Hink wrote:I think like many others, this was over hyped and underwhelming. Hype isn't really good imo because if people are expecting something great and you give them something that is very good it can be a let down.

I'm really strange, I use my phone to call people and get calls, I play games on a game system or on my computer, I don't understand why someone would rather text than talk (seems like a step backwards to me), I have cameras I use to take pictures, I have an mp3 for portable music, I have a nice sound system and I don't jump on fad bandwagons.

I guess if you're an iphone person this might be cool, but imo this is pretty lame. I wish you luck with it though. I just got my first cell phone in March, my wife has it most of the time but we rarely use it. I've used it 3 times, ironically to make calls on

One thing though, this will change the scope of dongle debates. I mean if people are worried about losing their software due to losing, breakage or having a dongle stolen what are they gonna say about the iphone? That's a product people want to steal.

One other question, if you're out dj'ing with this and the phone rings what do you do? Everyone is dancing, having fun, lights, fog then all of sudden some obnoxious ring tone is played, the lights stop, the dancing stops while the "pro" dj answers his call? Honestly if a dj showed up to something I paid him for and plugged in his phone I'd ask for my money back. This is already being plugged as a pro application, if the word pro hasn't already been reduced to meaningless this is the final straw
Hink - I salute you. Awesome post, making great points but also striking exactly the right tone and respect. :hail:

Mhm. Agreed (with Hink and minimarx).

I think the downside to it is - when there's the NEXT BIG INNOVATION flag from IK, most of us will simply ignore it.

Come think of it, that isn't that bad after all.

k

p.s.: we'll still probably buy whatever they make in the next eSoundz GB anyway.

wow, this is lame. IK should just stop, they have Sampletank and that's a great product, and I guess Miroslav. They should've just stopped there. After all the hype for this toy I'm checkin the calendar to make sure it's not April 1. :?

that's seriously dumb.
All that hype and that's your response? And I was waiting for yours in particular. Color me disappointed. :(

:hihi:
A response to a response? delra1rlo... Disappointed here also, as I was awaiting your cleverly worded nugget of cleverness (hmm, my vocabulary escapes me currently).

LOL.

I guessed a Neve console (which would have been the coolest thing ever). Then IK release this???

Damn, guess my "faith" was misplaced by a long shot here. Guess I should start donating to freeware developers after this . A lot of my respect was lost for IK today, I'm afraid to say. After the great T-RackS 3 I had nothing but admiration for IK, this release took a huge dump on my view of IK.

As soon as I saw the word iphone it hit me. I can't stand apple products. Try and justify this to yourselves, but just read 99% of the responses from musicians here. REAL ones, not wannabes. 'Musicians first'. LMAO.

If I want to produce on the move I'll use a LAPTOP, just like every other sensible producer/composer worth his salt.

You could get God himself to endorse this. I'd still think it stinks profusely.

Why did you have to ruin our relationship IK?

they'll waste their time making an Iphone toy, but won't add mouse wheel scrolling to Sampletank that people have been requesting for over 5 years. :?

So when does the group buy start? :hyper:

Wow! While I agree the product sucks and the marketing effort was horribly overblown, you guys need to relax a bit. This doesn't negate anything IK has done in the past either positive or negative. T-Racks3 doesn't suddenly suck as of this morning. In fact, it sounds the same as it did yesterday.

I thought it was clear from the wording in the teaser that it wasn't going to be anything most of us would be interested in to begin with. This is just a product that shouldn't have been marketed on this forum. Trust me, there are iPhone users who will like this. In fact, I'll bet that if IK never announced it at all, and someone happened across this on the IK site then posted about it here, there would be a much more positive tone in the thread. There would probably be a few more comments like, "hey look at this cool thing IK snuck out" with just a few "it sucks" as opposed to the pure vitriol in this thread.

Anyway, I have an iPhone and want a good music app, but unfortunately this isn't what I'm looking for. I just want something that will let me sketch out songs with drums, a bassline, and a single polysynth. It doesn't even need to sound particularly great. It should just allow me to e-mail myself exports of the audio tracks as well as MIDI performances so I can import them into my DAW for the real work.

Had IK put somehting like that out for the iPhone, I think you'd see a lot of excited musicians.

BTW, the iPhone is more like a tiny computer that also works as a phone, so enough of that "phones are for talking" nonesense. It makes absolutely no sense that there are so many technophiles on KVR! If you fail to see the irony in that... :?

I have to say I'm a little bit shocked at the hate being thrown towards IK over this.

So they made a fun little app for iPhone users so what!.

I don't see anywhere on the site that says they're abandoning all their other professional audio software for PC's and Mac's in favour of iPhone ONLY. I also don't see any wild claims that this will somehow replace portable DAW's either. Then maybe I could understand some of the incredibly negative posts.

I don't own an iPhone myself but if I did ya know what, I probably would get this as a fun play thing whilst travelling.

God forbid any serious software company dares to make a lighter more fun tool and tries to promote or hype it *shakes head*

the only thing that kinda irks me was the hype.

Pro tip: better to avoid hype than let people down.

Fair responses, though kind of obvious that we're not the target market right? Note that IK hyped this on their site and probably did pay for advertising in more places that WERE filled with the target market for this and will market it like other iPhone apps, surely. Though, as thread starter, I did think it was something more for "us" and do agree that the wording could have been less general so we'd realize that (and less hype, but that's not going to happen!).

Last ones for which we were the target market, they had animated banner ads here. If thy spend money on that sort of advertising again after release, well then I'll have to say that's a hard sell for sure and I personally wouldn't do so.

I'm wondering if they aren't thinking long term and possibly adding the ability to bring in your own sounds/loops and such? Even so far as pushing out the computer version again with more features? Integration with this iPhone app? That might be a little more worthy of the hype and better for a market such as this with more powerful features added. People seem to like the iPhone apps that connect with their computers over WiFi (though I don't have WiFi on my main DAW so it is a pain to set up an ad-hoc just for something like the nice Cubase control iPhone app, as an example) so that could be an idea.

As it is, though, I'd say getting a cold reception here isn't surprising but hopefully I'm right in that they purposely really didn't formally advertise it here. Andrew obviously chimed in, probably since he's the lucky guy who drew the short straw to represent IK here :P

Andrew's gushing enthusiasm prior to the announcement stirred a lot of interest and hope. Comments about how much WE KVE USERS would like this certainly suggested it would be a product relevant to professional audio folk. Hence I think the disappointment.

The product may be great for its target market (personally I don't give a sh*t)... but disappointment being expressed here by KVR users seems to me perfectly legitimate given the hype was directed to KVR users. It is the hype - not the product - that is the problem, I'm sure.

And I don't think equates to "hate" either - just disappointment. I'm sure people will continue liking other IK stuff just the same.
