Okay I added the word FREE. But, really this thread is more about what people would actually BUY in any particular format. But I am also interested to know what they would just WANT (even for free). I do have a very good idea of what the size of various sampler user bases are. But there's nothing like direct feedback from people even if it is on a smaller scale. So I like this poll. But by all means if people want to spread the word on other forums and rally up some people to vote for the format they want the most then yeah there's a much better chance of us making a FREE Ocean Way Drum Kit for whoever does that! So... in other words, if you want a free Ocean Way Drum Kit for Battery then get 100 people to vote for it! If you want it for Reason or anything else then vote vote vote!

Hi, my suggestions are for forum readers to know and easily find what you have generously offered, not so much that there be a perpetually free kit.Squids wrote:Okay I added the word FREE. These folks http://www.computermusic.co.uk/
are including this on the magazine dvd #142:
" Submersible Music DrumCore 3 CM
Create pro-quality drum tracks on your PC or Mac with this amazing plug-in! DrumCore 3 CM features a huge 1.8GB of samples and MIDI performances with loops and fills played by top drummers Gary Thompson (Dave Stewart, Everclear) and John Tempesta (Testament, White Zombie)!"
Maybe their monthly dvd would be a good home for a limited instrument
Ocean Way kit in Drumcore format?
Cheers

I'd have to go with Addictive Drums first, followed by Battery.
Addictive Drums is great but the relatively small library, and with only a couple of add-ons, it's ripe for extension. Also a new version is about to start beta.
Cheers,
Nigel

A FREE Ocean Way Drums Kit 10 Refill should be coming soon. Man, it sounds soooo good in NNXT and ReDrum! Also, we're going to be releasing a "Best of Sonic Reality Drums" Refill soon. It's all hyper sampled (to use that term) and has alting (round robin) and all sorts of stuff... extended imap... I think Reason users are going to like it a lot!

with drums i tend not to use complete kits ever, but rather mix, match and map them myself, so as long as the WAV files are accessible then I'm a happy man whatever format its in
Signature blocked until somebody convinces me they aren't utterly pointless

My vote goes to EZdrummer. I own Superior too but most of the time i turn to EZdrummer because its so ahhemmm easy to use and with great sounds like OWD the lack of onboard tools to alter the sound isnt really a big deal!

It's probably not the thread to post this, but the free kit you're offering now in kontakt format is not quite free. You can use it in the player for two weeks, then it times out, you can't load it into kontakt, because it's not licensed. I think "demo" or even "timed demo" is a better description for it.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but I'm kind of disappointed after spending quite some time downloading 700 MB of samples, to find out that I can't load it.

By the way, if you haven't seen the Sonic Reality Flickr photo gallery (we're also going to have this viewable from www.sonicreality.com in a little bit) check it out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sonicreality/sets/ Have fun! Hundreds and hundreds of photos from sessions and all kinds of things.

No, the sampled kit IS Free. But we never said the player was free. You can use the Ocean Way Drums Expandable Player in trial mode for 2 weeks. If you like the player then you can buy JUST the player and then the sampled kit you downloaded can be used as much as you want.Kyran wrote:It's probably not the thread to post this, but the free kit you're offering now in kontakt format is not quite free. As far as using it with "Kontakt Player Free" from Native Instruments, that is a totally different thing. It will also work with that but only in their demo mode of 30 minutes at a time. It's not up to us at all. That's how they do it. It is actually a way to be able to use this kit for free for longer than 14 days. But, it is annoying that the Kontakt Player runs with that 30 minute limitation.
So, the reality is that you DO need to have the Ocean Way Drums Expandable Player to be able to continue to use this free kit. Just like you would need to own the samplers of the other format versions we're doing with this kit for free. We don't make the samplers and can't offer it for free. We make the sounds and... 700 megs of free sounds in a kit is pretty good! Hard to complain I would hope.

Well, you might want to rephrase your marketing, because you are suggesting it's something which it's not (without actually saying something wrong, we're getting close to legalese here).
The thing is that you need to buy ocean drums to use the kit, which means it's a demo. Of course a demo is also free, but ...
You can't use it longer than 2 weeks in the Ocean Way Drums player
You can't use it longer than 30 minutes in the kontakt free player
You can't even load it in kontakt 3 full without having a registered OD player.
No way to use the content restrictionless without buying something = demo
I'm not saying this to point fingers or accuse you or anything. I just think that I'm not the only one who thought this was a different kind of free product based on the wording. It's why I'm disappointed, which does not really make me want to buy your product. Your offer can be as generous as possible, if the expectations of the customer are not met, he is not happy and the description does a great deal in setting the expectations.

Rephrase the marketing where? Here in this thread or the official page? There's a big difference. Here in the thread we're talking about the kit samples being free in a variety of sampler formats. OWD Expandable Player powered by Kontakt is a sampler format too.
Here's some perspective on the subject:
If I offer a FREE refill for Reason is it not free because you do have to buy Reason? "Sampler not included". Our main business is sounds. We make sounds for samplers. Even Ocean Way Drum kits are still sounds that normally have a VALUE and if we give them away at no charge then that is in fact FREE. But you DO need to own the sample format player to use it. We never say we're going to give you the player for free and most people don't expect it. So being disappointed because you expect that is not fair in my opinion.
Read the wording here where we officially offer it: http://www.downloadablesoundz.com/oceanwaydrums
See how it says "Try Ocean Way Drums DL for FREE"? You can try it out for free.
Then if one was to BUY JUST the player here: http://www.downloadablesoundz.com/detai ... uctID=2752 (which is the lowest price way into Ocean Way Drums) then they would be able to continue to use that FREE Kit 10 medium forever. That shouldn't be just taken for granted.
If we didn't give away that OWD Kit 10 for free then you'd have to buy the full OWD Kit 10 for $39-59 on top of the $99 OWD Player.
Now, on top of that we're also talking about doing this OWD Kit 10 in OTHER sampler formats too (that's what this thread is mainly about). But again we're not saying we're going to INCLUDE THE SAMPLER FREE to play the kit in those cases either. But the sampled kit will in fact BE free. It's not a matter of legelese or even opinion. Free is free! If we don't CHARGE for the samples then that means we are offering them free of charge. If we are giving away certain SAMPLES for free we're certainly allowed to say that.
But, of course we don't want to disappoint anyone. Although I am not sure how we can be disappointing someone who even gets to try it out for free either. Why? Because someone went to all the trouble of downloading a 700 meg file? Is it putting someone out that much to do that? I hope not.
Anyway, I do see your point except that I am not sure what wording you are talking about. The wording of the official page is different than the wording in this thread. But the wording in this thread is about having these free samples in a variety of sampler formats, not just for the OWD Expandable Player.
In any case, because we do really want the Kit 10 to be as free as possible I've already talked to NI about making OWD Kit 10 work permanently in Kontakt Player FREE which may happen in the future. They'd have to do something with the encryption to make that possible but they seemed open to it. We might make it for KORE free as well and certainly if we do Battery then that will work with Kore free too.
But, we'll see. I want to make it clear if it isn't already that even if the samples in this case ARE free, we're not doing this or even pretending to do this because we want to be a freeware/shareware company. The purpose of giving away the kit in whatever capacity the user has to continue to play it with their sampler of choice IS in fact to give them an idea of what the commercial product is like so they'll hopefully buy it. But it IS more than a demo. The PLAYER we have is a demo/trial (and we call it that). But the samples are FREE and we call it that too.

Thanks for the long replay squids. I know you guys mean well, and it's great that you are thinking about getting it to work in the free kontakt player. Very little companies make that effort.
I just wanted to point out that I expected it to work differently after I first read the description of the download. Ofcourse, now that I know how it works, I see that the text states exactly what's going on.
I was hoping to give some constructive criticism, really. It's not really meant as a complaint (it's still all free, so how can I complain right?). I felt a bit disappointed after downloading it all, and that's not the mood that encourages me to purchase something. I thought that different phrasing might prevent that from happening.
But if you're happy with it, just stick with it. Maybe it's just me.
I really think it's great that you go through such great lengths to give me a reply too. If you ever get to belgium I'll buy you a beer

Superior 2 is the best engine for sampled drums imho, I have bought all their content so far (exception Twisted and Claustrophobic which I don't like) and will probably continue to do so, same for HQ addons like the announced Platinum Samples expansions, provided pricing is as reasonable as TT's.
The reason I haven't even considered OWD yet is Kontakt, I use it all the time and it's fine for regular samples, but for drums ? Come on ! The interface just isn't made for drums and I much prefer TT's TPC/complete loading concept to streaming. Not even starting about bleed, combined presets and all the other drum specific goodies ...
Most of us are pretty set with good drums and most of us suffer from suboptimal self control
, so make it easy for us by offering our preferred format(s) and attractive pricing, impulse buys will follow inevitably.
Your download format is a step in the right direction.
