My grandfather too was a garbage collector. He used to collect pieces of metal and yes: no one ever knew why. He had a little "secret" garden where he used to pass his time alone. When he died he left a lot of metal sculptures and other interesting things he created with the recycled metal.

And I must admit that me too once I've taken a broken VCR from the trash: the case was perfect for a DIY project I had in mind :hihi:

...and... and here I'm really serious... Sometimes people are simply crazy! One of my previous computers was an AMD 1.4Ghz: believe it or not I found it while I was throwning away the trash. It was new, perfect... the Windows installation was clean, with no programs installed. We are simply going crazy with technology, we thrown away things that can be used again just to be "updated"... this doesn't make sense and damage the environment.

Also: once a friend of mind found an old Elka synth in the trash (this is something I've told a zillion times). There's some people out there which used to thrown away things that for they have no value...

So always take a look at your local trash bin: it could change your life once for all! :lol:

the disgusting dumpyardful of crap he piled up over the years is still here... :(
I think I've found the barn on Google Earth :lol: Wow it's a beautiful place surrounded by nature, really inspiring for composing music.

About those tanks... do you mind to take a picture? Maybe I can retire them to use 'em as a musical instrument/sampling source :D

If he had ever done anything at all (I mean AT ALL) with any piece of garbage whatsoever, I could justify that. The problem is, he never ever did anything with any of the garbage he brought here...
However, now that you mention that, I guess it all started when he was a real garbage man (I'm talking about the job now); he and my sis had a little child and had very little money, so - as you said - he found occasionally something they could recycle. I guess probably something clicked in his mind during that period and never left...

For the second time in a week, I want to post a picture that I had on 'putfile.com' ... but I discovered first time round that it is now dead!
Anyway, I am a junk collector ( as opposed to my partner who is a hoarder! ..the difference is that I do stuff with my junk other than occupy precious space with junk that just sits there and does nothing other than occupy space!! )

One wall of my tiny kitchen is shelved entirely with wood gathered from skips ( bulk refuse vessels often hired by builders ).
My favoured 'gig' mandolin is a twelve string (yes!) and consists of a neck rescued from a collapsed junk shop purchase, a body carved from an old fire door, and a pickup left over from the ceremonial smashing of my first guitar!
Both my bouzouki cases are home made out of cardboard boxes, paper mache, milk bottle tops, and bits of found polystyrene, and odd bits of material!
I have a toombi that my daughter and I made from an old towel rail and a plastic chocolates box! ( and it sounds great! )

I could go on, but suffice to say, if I see something in a bin that has some value, or could become something of better value, ... I grab it! ... in the name of negative environmental impact if nothing else!

I throw nothing out if it may have some value to a future project, and between my useful crap, and my partners hoarding, you might well expect that I need a bigger house!! :hihi:

So I'm a 'junk collector' .. as opposed to a 'refuse collector' ... as employed by the city council cleansing dept! My late uncle was a refuse collector! .... which made my poor family richer by having the occasional option to aquire stuff like the odd working radio/electric fire/gas cooker/fur lined coat/fishing rod/leather purse/wallet etc 'extracted' from the landfill payload!

.... and in Aberdeen, my uncle, as other refuse collectors/bucketmen were called "scaffies" ... :hihi:

Well it would be a really weird thing if the satellite taken a picture of your garden exactly while you were there naked :hihi: Anyway it's not impossible... Can you see that black car crosswire in the middle of the road? That's a girl which live here, she's famous 'cause she do crazy things anytime she try to park her car. Can't believe my eyes when I saw the shot on google earth :hihi:

Well, other than engage in the idle animal/environmental health chat dominating this thread, I got a wee bit further on with my track tonight!

... I believe if you grow up surrounded by shit, you become shit, you speak shit, see value in shit, and therefore produce shit! ... recycling eh? :hihi:
