there are a lot of presets - some better than others (as usual). quite a few have built-in arpeggiation/animating filter effects. not sure about how they would generally suit cleaner "pop" dance styles, the overall tone of a lot of them is pretty gritty and raw (most of the sounds clean up nicely with, but they kinda kick a lot of ass as-is). some of the basses are stunning.

Excuse me if this has been asked before. Will there be a demoversion?

Yes and we still waiting for it.

Everyone who bought it - thanks for all the feedback :)

Captain - some valid points there.. it would be great if you could start a thread at our forum so we have an easily referenced record of them. That way it's easier for Angus to take a look when he gets back.

Regarding the various comments about the presets - it's definitely very difficult to please everyone with a set of presets! I think from a rough indication of the feedback so far, most people have liked them while some people haven't.

When we commissioned the presets, our remit to the sound designers was to make useful sounds that sit well in a mix context while being musical and inspiring (not an easy task - major kudos to the sound design team for coming up with some great stuff!). We didn't want everything to be totally zany and extreme so it sounded 'wow' on its own but was unusable in a tune!

Perhaps because of this, the presets may seem underwhelming considering the mind-boggling scope of what's possible with Synth Squad, but as some users have noted, the whole point of the design and architecture is to make sound design fun and accessible to everyone - hopefully reducing the reliance on presets and allowing people to get more creative and be more expressive with their sounds.

It's definitely the most comprehensive set of presets we've ever released with a product, so I think we did pretty well overall considering our guidelines mentioned above. However, we're always open to constructive criticism in order to improve, and any coherent feedback is welcomed! So if you can tell us why you don't like anything in quite specific terms (rather than just 'I don't like it' or 'it sucks') then please let us know!

I bought Synth Squad this afternoon, LOVE IT so far.

1 question:
I understand the midi learn process to get my sustain pedal working in the individual synths (midi learn the hold button, the setting is remembered)
when I bring the individual synths into fusor, the sustain pedal assignments are not remembered.

I have saved a couple patches in fusor with hold enabled, and when I go back to them sustain pedal assignments are gone.

is this intended behavior?

Did you watch this video yet?

Great video , got me even more tempted to buy.....

Just bought it! It definitly got its own sound. Insane CPU hog though. Best to keep these synths monophonic.

Not sure what the Beat knob in Cypher does. Is it a lfo? The video on Cypher didnt really mention that knob much.

yesterday at home, i noticed some odd behaviour (sudden non-stopping noise that i had to kill by reloading the plugin) while trying some patches in Amber.

Is this a known "bug", or an expected vintage behaviour, or should i investigate further to report more precisely what happens on my system?

Overall, a great investment. I particularly like Cypher.

What setup are you on ?

In what way its a "CPU Hog" ?

Now guys... why do you think there's a manual included? :) (Agreed, the beat parameter isn't that self-evident, but it's all explained very clearly in the manual.)

EDIT: Of course, I just realized you could've bought the boxed version, and didn't actually get the manual yet. :)

Well it sounds good, so I don't mind that it takes a bit of CPU.
A polyphonic (6) Cypher patched reached 164 % CPU in Live 7.
An monophonic Amber patch uses about 45% CPU with 2X oversampling.
I tested it on my 1 yo Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM. The heaviest soft synth I have ever had.

The beat detune on each oscillator allows you to detune the the pitch of each oscillator in Hertz or note divitions synced to your host tempo. This allows you to have the same rate of beating across the entire keyboard range. With normal detuning the rate of beating between oscillators doubles with each octave.

Here is an example with 3 oscillators, each oscillator is set to a different beat detune amount, there are no lfos used - the beating is completely done with oscillator interference and is at the same rate not matter which note is played. The different rates of beating you hear are from mixing the oscillators in different combinations, and allowing their slightly different pitches to interfere with each other:

With the "low" mode enabled then the pitch of that oscillator is set to 0 Hertz, and only the beat knob still works, so you can in effect use each oscillator as a variable waveform lfo.

As an advanced feature the beat difference between two oscillators is also available as a mod source, so in effect the same interference beat pattern you hear between the two oscillators you can also use to modulate other parameters.
