Just got this. Impressed, a lot deeper than I would have thought. Steep learning curve, but very good for what it is......

probably runs like a dream on iphone cause it runs like a friggin' champ on the palm tungsten t3...haven't run into a ceiling with the synthesis and fx yet...best part about the program is being able to work on pc and handheld device on same tune. bought a copy a while back and haven't regretted it. just don't have time to use it much! :p
now if they can just upgrade the FM features...

Is it worth bothering with if you don't do trackers?

yeah i think so. i tried nitrotracker for the ds but couldn't really figure it out and gave up quickly. but sunvox is pretty easy to use if you check out the youtube videos. i figured out the basics quickly.aMUSEd wrote:Is it worth bothering with if you don't do trackers?
oh yeah i forgot, there's a demo for the pc/mac/linux version. it's pretty much the same thing

One thing I like about sequencer/tracker side of it is that you can make a track with only controller commands...thus making what most other daw's called 'automation clips' and put them anywhere in the song...i.e. have a pattern that's nothing but a filter sweep and throw it down on the bass line whenever you want while the bassline pattern is nothing but notes.
Also, 'naming' patterns as pictures is much more meaningful to me, especially since i'm a bit of a pixeler sometimes. :p
As for the actual tracker aspect, I think it's worth it for what's under the hood. You won't find anything quite this powerful for any handheld format. I know, cause I've used damn near all of them...the only things mildly close to what this puppy is capable of PSPSeq (synthesis) and Bhajis Loops (useful inline FX). The learning curve really isn't that big...it's just an 'adjustment'.
If you look at it like a portable Reason without pretty graphics, you'll get a better sense of what it can REALLY do.

can you elaborate on how to use these commands in this tracker ? ....i've got to grips with the basics of sunvox so far...but now i'm trying to understand how to implement controller automation ....many thanks !!!!

If you look at the fx and generators, you'll see they're all numbered. Each paramater of each unit is numbered too. You combine the two numbers on the left column and then type in the value on the right column. It's possible to interpolate (i.e. smoothly move from one value to the next) by selecting a block of values and then going to the menu and selecting INTERPOLATE.
I.E.
ROW 1 = 0101/FFFF (instrument 1, paramater 1 set to maximum value)
ROW 32 = 0101/0000 (instrument 1, parameter 1 set to minimum value)
Now if I select rows 1 to 32, I can interpolate smoothly from the maximum paramater value to the smallest value without having to figure all that out. It will automagically fill in all the proper row commands inbetween. It's not necessary to have a note on a row to change a parameter.
There's several videos on using SunVox you should probably look at. There's no narration, but it will better illustrate what I've just said.
One thing you've got to remember, though...there's some SAMPLE SPECIFIC commands that aren't listed on the sampler. For instance RETRIGGER. This is best illustrated by stuttering beats and rolling snares, etc. however you can get some APHEX TWIN-type action with the right values. There's also SAMPLE OFFSET which starts playing the sample from somewhere OTHER THAN the beginning. Other things like note DELAY can be used on all generators.
