Hey Squidz,

In a group buy last year we got a collection of "Retro Drum Grooves" which I really like. It would be ever so handy to have these grooves in ReTank format, because there are certain drum hits that I really want to use to add flavour to my songs.

Is there any chance this is available already or coming soon? I would pay for the update right this minute if you have them available.

With fingers crossed,

Zed

P.S. Alternatively (and maybe even better) getting those loops in RX2 format would be fantastic because then they could be imported into either Stylus RMX or DrumCore to create groove variations. :-)

I am pretty sure (not positive) that between the latest R.A.W. Deluxe Drum Grooves, R.A.W. Vintage Rock and R.A.W. Universal Groove Kit you would have pretty much all of the grooves that were in that Retro Groove title and much more... in Rex (as well as Apple Loops and Wave). All downloadable now too.

Okay. Thanks for that. :-)

Only trouble is that I had created little audio demos of my favorite retro grooves so that I could quickly audition and find what I'm looking for. So searching for them in other drum packs defeats the purpose of quickly finding and using what I need.

That utility you once spoke of which would create ReTank loops from any WAV file would come in very handy right about now. ;-)

I hear ya. Well, actually that tool worked the other way around (from REX to Wave, not the other way... nothing authors "REX" format except Recycle... even DrumCore which exports Rex actually has it stored already in that format and then accesses it for you as opposed to actually converting to REX.).

But, it might not be a bad idea to make Retro Grooves a ReTank title. The problem is that ReTank isn't as big as I hoped it would be. It sells pretty good but of course not like RMX Paks or R.A.W. Yet, the funny thing is you can do more in ReTank with separate midi files and the full Sampletank engine than almost any other format most people use. The next 3 weeks are dedicated to videos which are going to be done mainly for the Infinite Player range of products but I may do one finally showing what the benefits of ReTank are in case that might give it a spark. I really love ReTank myself. Just with zone editing alone and saving back child presets you can make some wicked tweaks to those loops... imagine you can even put each slice in its own playback engine between resampling, PSTS and Stretch! Well... maybe if I show how to do it but it is so easy.

The auditioning of the loops inside ST can be better but I think in a future update that will be improved and maybe you'll be able to hear it before loading it or something. Wouldn't that be cool? At least for loops and for multi-samples maybe you could hear one note of it first. Maybe it'll just play middle C of any sound before you load it. Cool feature huh? SampleTank isn't abandoned. Don't worry. It will have a cool update at some point.
