Optomadic wrote:Does this wrapper use code from Chris Walton's oversampler (or vice versa)? I vaguely remember reading something about you 2 doing a collaboration on oversampling. If so, its strange as 1.4 does not crash any plugins (yet) on my system but this new version does.
No, it's probably my fault as I didn't push this much further. The reason for this is, that we both used completely different approaches (redirecting vs. wrapping) and completely different programming languages. Except the functionallity these two had near to nothing in common.

Keep also in mind, that officially no SynthEdit and SynthMaker plugins are supported, as both environment have a confirmed bug, that is near to impossible to workaround without a little help from the SE/SM developers side.

These plugins may work (if they don't need to use external data of any kind), but most probably will fail.

Kind regards,

Christian

I've tried to uninstall it, but (after reboot) the shell is always here and locked.

So i know the tools "unlock". It can be removed with regedit too.

[quote="Christian Budde"]The standalone tool in the 7z archieve does now contain some command line options:

OversampleVstPlugin.exe *.dll

will create wrapped VST plugins of all VST plugins inside that directory./quote]

nice, thanks

If any of you want this to work with SynthEdit Plugins, it couldn't hurt to ask Jeff to help out fixing this bug of SE. I tried to contact him about this issue several times, but either the mails didn't come thru or he didn't wanted to respond to my mails.

I know this bug is not easy to fix, but at least he could try it. As I would also help out where needed.

Kind regards,

Chistian

Novaflash delete these keys after using the uninstaller:

Shell Key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\OversampleVSTPlugin

CLS ID Key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E6EE9FD1-5C55-4894-8017-3D97C9BB9110}

I think the associated dll object will only delete on reboot.

Complete noob here, although i do understand the benefits of oversampling.

I have used Chris Waltons wrapper in the past.

What the the pros and cons of his version against yours?

Many thanks

Some plugins will work in both. Some plugins will work in neither. Some will work in one, but not the other (for example, Synthedit plugins will usually work in mine). Mine is relatively simplistic, only offering 2x oversampling. It might be slightly faster, but I haven't tested this, so take it with a grain of salt. Christian's is more flexible.

It just depends. I'd say just use whichever works better with a particular plugin, and if both work, use Christian's since it's more flexible.

Just wanted to give this old thread a bump. I remember following this with interest at the time, but was traveling then. While working on a project today, I decided to try and oversample gclip, which I had on the drum bus. I had to do a bit of memory jogging to find this thread, but I found it and it works great!

Thanks for this great tool Christian!

Any progress on an x64 compatible version?

"We" need to have a really good oversampler plugin. I have noticed that most plugins internal oversamplers are not enough. Take Mellowmuse CP2V for example. It is 4x internal but I tried it with both 44100Hz and 176400Hz and there was a big difference. Listen to the attack and the "overs" that occur with the 44100Hz file. The same happened with Waves API 2500 even though I don't know if it internally oversample.

http://www.speedyshare.com/files/287464 ... 100hz.flac
http://www.speedyshare.com/files/287464 ... 400hz.flac (resampled back to 44100 for compatibily)

The old oversampler that floated around here which you had to rename .os. in the file names, did not work that well. If a plugin had a built in hipass or something like that, the oversampler would then increase the hipass filter the more you oversampled the plugin.

I beg you KVR members, please make a good oversampler for us compression loving freaks :D
Regards.

Edit: I just tried Waves CLA 2a on a snare and compared 352800Hz vs 44100. Wow, the attack sounds really smooth in 352800Hz.

To clarify. When I test the different sample rates, I change the project sample rate in Reaper. I don't use an oversampler plugin.
