winning "£1,000" and winning "£1,000 worth of royalty-free samples" are very definitely NOT the same thing. come on...
and as far as i can see, the person most likely to win is also the person least likely to need the samples and loops. a flawed idea

Signature blocked until somebody convinces me they aren't utterly pointless

Although the £1000 is a bit over-stated, I'm not sure the competition is entirely flawed. There are a fair few people putting loops together who fancy themselves as sound/loop designers on the side and who might like the samples for doing music. For many of them the contract carrot is going to be a bigger draw as it saves them the hassle of shopping demo sets around the sample suppliers.monkeyweasel wrote:winning "£1,000" and winning "£1,000 worth of royalty-free samples" are very definitely NOT the same thing. come on...

The people who can already get a contract won't be attracted by the main prize as they, as you say, don't really need them. This makes it easier for S2S as they will be able to cast their net wider for suppliers without having people turn up who will quibble over the contract terms. That, however, is probably not such good news for entrants.

I think the main thing here is that they are looking for people to work for them ... It's not easy to find good people, and they actually state in the text that they're looking for 'the next generation of sample producers' whatever that means.. Anyway it's a good opportunity to maybe get some work!!

It's also an easy way for them to obtain lots of loops. From the small print :
•You agree that the sounds you enter are freely and exclusively licensed by you to Sounds/To/Sample Ltd and DJ Magazine, and may be offered as free samples as part of future promotions.
But nevertheless it's a great price if you're into loops.

Thats the bit that always bugs me. Great idea. Great prize. But if they choose your loops as part of their "free package", and they're benefiting, you must get something in return surely....even a just credit ??!!pschelfh wrote:It's also an easy way for them to obtain lots of loops. Good luck to all who enter
