Hey everybody,

I know that this is not the IK Multimedia forum... but many of us are SampleTank users and I have a suggestion which I am hoping that Squids or another member of the eSoundz team can pass along to the folks down the hall...

I could probably think up a bunch of things, but I will just begin with the one I was wishing for this evening (which inspired me to begin this thread):

(1) A new effect to create MONO instruments.
The options when activating that effect would be simple:
---mono (summed L + R)
---mono from Left channel only
---mono from Right channel only
---stereo (swapped L and R channels)

Alternatively, these options could be added onto a knob in the envelope controls instead of it being an effect.

This would allow us to create mono instruments and then save them as presets within SampleTank, which would be a real handy feature to have, and I can't imagine it would take much effort for IKM to add this.

Currently, you can create a mono instrument by using the Lo-Fi effect and turning the bandwidth knob to maximum, while keeping the LoFi and Stereo knobs at zero. But this does not give you control over the type of mono sound, and so is not an ideal option. If anyone knows of another way to create mono instruments with the current version of ST, then please speak up.

I welcome others to add their SampleTank 3.0 suggestions to this thread.

And Squids, if you would prefer it, I can present these suggestions to IK Multimedia myself if you have an idea who best I would send it to.

Thanks in advance,

Zedd :-)

I'll bite:

These go for all "powered by SampleTank" products:
-- mousewheel support (and full KB support) in the Instruments Browser for much faster navigation, selection and loading of sounds
-- user-assignable Macro knobs (so I can control any parameters I like as VSTi parameters (not MIDI CCs)

Near as I can tell this is dependent upon the host. IIRC an update made this work fine in two hosts I use occasionally, but not in the one I use most.

How about the option to be able to save a modified preset as a PARENT instrument?

That would be so wonderful because then we could turn our favorite presets into master instruments that could be stored in any folder or level of the sample library.

Mousewheel support was added a while ago, both for Sonik Synth 2 and Sampletank 2.5. I believe the other "powered by" instruments have it as well.

I also think it works in standalone too, so I'm not sure why some hosts would impose a limitation.

So many plugins, so little time...

Being a huge fan of ST I would be happy to see the following features in the future update:
- bigger text (it could imply a bigger interface unfortunately),
- insert and master FX capabilities (useful for multilayered patches),
- better/more efficient browsing system (mentioned above).

I would imagine also that ST could be "dissolved" into modules. Sample engine, fx section, mixer etc. Such a "modular" approach (sort of ReasonT or T-Racks Shell -like) could be a idea to integrate more IKM products.

Less crashes please :(

ST and SS2 are probably my two most used instruments but I don't trust them as much as I would like for live performances as they (especially ST) have a tendancy to go *poof* randomly when I am using them.

Improved sample import with an editor would be awesome :)

Improved mousewheel support. Other plugins work with the mousewheel in my hosts yet ST doesn't so it should be possible.

Insert/master effects sounds good too :)

I think it's because they intercept, process, and consume mousewheel events from the OS themselves. This is based on tinkering, I don't know for sure.

Fair enough, but my mousewheel works fine with other VSTi products.

I like the idea of modules - routing similar to the AmpliTube series would be great. The effects as a rack would be a great module, for example. Make it just like the AT rack. In fact, just allow use of the AT rack (and the already-available ST effects) in there :)

That said, I guess it would just be turning ST-powered products into a suite of products able to be run with an X-Gear-like program. That would suit me fine if and only if it didn't load the sounds of all these products together at startup.

And if and only if SampleTank either continues to properly open and load presets saved with projects in previous versions of SampleTank, or allows the continued use of ST 2.x after installing ST.3.x

But then it would disturb me if they discontinued support for the 2.x version, since this is what happened with Amplitube 1.x, which no longer works on an Intel Mac (which is a crying shame because that was a really special plugin).

round robining of samples
modwheel cross fading
Something akin to X-Gear except for SampleTank based apps like Philharmonik, SampleTron, etc

Yep, my exact same thoughts!

And others hit my exact same thoughts outside of that including your round robin samples for sure! Sample import should be on the list of improvements too, it is obviously an issue under certain circumstances at present.

+1...with an ability to import more formats, perhaps.
