I'm experiencing some issues with the Mapex Kit and I'm trying to figure out if it's somehow related to my setup or if there actually is a problem with the sample mapping.
Before I go on, I just have to say that I really like the different kits in the Drum Masters series. Some of the things I like the most are that they offer so much diversity in terms of sound. Not just that they are different kits recorded in high quality. The kits are completely different in tuning and recorded in different room environments. I find this series kind of unique in that sense. Being a drummer myself I also like the fact that they're quite "raw". I like to have the ability to tweak the drum sound myself. I could go on about the Ed Greene snare and Danny Gottlieb's ride cymbal…. but I'll just conclude that I look forward to the future additions to this series.
That said, I have some problems with the Mapex kit, which I cannot seem to fix. There seem to be some issues with the snare ghost strokes. Somewhere around velocities 85-95 there is a sudden drop in volume. Also, up to a velocity of about 40 there is no or very little sound (less than would be expected at the velocity levels). Even though this might seem like a small problem, it's somewhat of a show stopper for me since I almost always use ghost strokes in beats.
Secondly (and this is a minor issue) there does not seem to be alternate normal strokes for the toms, which is indicated in the IMAP. IMHO it sounds like these instead are alternate rim shot/edge strokes. For example: Tom 2, F3 and F#3 both seem to be rim or edge strokes. For tom 3, G3 and G#3 seem to be rim/edge strokes etc. I could of course fix this myself by remapping in Kontakt, but then the idea of separately recorded alternate strokes would be lost.
I might add that I have re-downloaded the samples and nkm/nki's, but the problem remains.
Does anyone here have the NDV Mapex stick kit and experience the same issues?
