man that is a beautiful GUI. very stout. ears have had a beating today but im gonna play with this all day tommorow.

cpu spiking @ 30% and higher in REAPER after i play with the knobs. hmm, will investigate further tommorow.

edit--

ok so im able to duplicate the cpu spike. it happens when i switch the mode to L/R and then back to Stereo, the CPU usage spikes way up. I am running Reaper v3 on Windows XP SP3 on a P4 desktop.

btw the plugin sounds very nice.

Bootsie I just wanted to let you know I love everything you've made, use some of your plugs all the time and recommend them to others. Thanks for sticking to your free guns despite making software that sounds and looks professional quality.

No, I wasn't.
What?

Had Density on some acoustic guitars this morning. Really nice, just right. It's easy to dial in the right timing with those two dials. I like that.

Thank you Bootsie for great compressor!

Old Timer: Not as good as Density or 670.

670: Really good, easily gets too pumpy for my taste.

Density MkII: The gentleman in this comparison. It's not so easy to make it sound "wrong". Much easier with the 670 or PSP.

Rocket: A more aggressive beast, like it for what it does. For what I like more often (softer, less aggressive) it's not versatile enough.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Has bManic also had a chance to compare these?

Post

- Rocket is indeed more agressive, snappier/punchier. But both are very different in design (Density mk2 allows M/S processing, while Rocket has threshold control, a distortion knob, an autogain feature, etc).
So both plugins are keepers and live very well together side by side ;)

- I tried the 670 very briefly, and it distorts rather quickly and pumps also quite a lot, so it is definitively a different, dirtier, sound.

Density Mk2
seems to be able to stay clean even pushed quite hard, and its specific design makes it a very nice tool to play with.

I've tried Density Mk2 and must say I am impressed. I used it on a master stereo buss and while you can hear it make a slight difference, it will only get as 'dirty' as you want it too imo. Nice one Bootsie.

(I used it on the first track on soundclick  )

No need to do it.. like shogger said, Density mk2 does it's own thing and it does it very well! So far it jumped right into my favorites folder. Yesterday I used it in a multiband configuration within reaper, worked extremely well!

I especially like the way you can enhance the initial transient by keeping that small knob at the "relaxed" position. It's very effective. And in the multiband configuration I kept the bass compressor in the "Strict" position and with a fairly fast timing (I think it was P2). It had no distortion or other problems which probably means there is some kind of oversampling going on behind the scenes and some clever envelope following dsp.

Cheers!

The beta did run on SSE1 it could only be that some assembler tuning during the last stage broke compatibility - I will check that again, later.

No oversampling, at least in audio path (might be in sidechain).
Anyway, I tried putting Density, with some gentle compression followed by the Glue - and wow, this combo seems to be overkill!

Thanks Boots !

You got a great one there, Bootsie. Works well with Sonar 8. Beautiful gui. Love the switches.
