when considering well-received applications for my abilities, the prospect of developing natural models for foley instead of instrumental use seems sensible and interesting.

ie. a (standalone?) version of fauna or oscine tract that uses more cpu than appropriate for compositional rendering, but 'sounds really good' (lots of sections on the k-l tract.. the sections have mass-springs to modulate the area by incoming pressure to model tissue flexibility.

may i ask you to please describe your applications for fauna.. performance control methods, market/semantic, perhaps how much time you expect to spend patching.

thank you,

thank you,
I am a professional sound developer.

I'm using Fauna for foley fx and background "organic" base materials, that sometimes get processed through external analog filters or sometimes rendered directly to disk.

I would love to see a stand-alone version that allowed more tweak-ability. I'm currently controlling it via midi, and generally don't need polyphony, as I only use 1 or 2 notes to generate a sound. It's more about the ability to create organic quality "natural" type sounds, though not necessarily sounds found in nature...but something that is natural sounding.

Hi Rurik,

I usually open Fauna for (instrumental use of) the last (pitch tracking) preset,
it is one of my favorite sounds in the whole world,
(along with the eolian harp  ,
& my favorite being Annette Peacock's Divine voice/music  )
'pitch tracking' really 'sounds really good' pretty very much indeed,
I would've bought Fauna just for that last preset :P
even if it had no fader, no button, no control whatsoever & no G.U.I. ...
... I could spend hours NOT patching it :harp:

I also sometimes open Fauna (for a non instrumental use)
like I would open a book that could project animated holographic pictures
to show them to my family, my friends or my neighbour's cats,
just to see priceless expressions of surprise & amazement on their faces :o  :D
Fauna is so much more than a VST plugin,
just like all we living creatures are so much more than clusters
of molecules from the Periodic Table of the Elements ...
Fauna is like a cosmic vehicle,
a Mothership where Nature's spirit lives in ...

... I dare not mess with it  ...

... I'm not sure if that helps, Rurik,
actually, it was just an occasion to show you my appreciation
now that I finally have an internet connection at home :borg:
(forgive my overuse of emoticons, it's my 1st time & the kid in me can't resist using them :D

Wishing you all the sweet best  ...

... keep the wonders coming !!! :tu:

... like the spirit gives meaning (life) to the letter (code),
am I right ?

that's why I love your synthesis/algorythmic/midi works so much :)

ps : I just sent you a track entirely made with 4 instances of Hyperion
for Pling3, Mr Ray, Cello & Oud soundfonts, & Addictive Drums,
& I played a Trumpet (soundfont) solo on top,
I hope you'll like it :)

i ought to say if you are right? how will you know then? ;)

i sent you a reply about the track, i don't know if it went through the file delivery site. thank you :)

... sorry, I'm a bit confused :ud:
do you mean that you sent me a reply through the file delivery site ?

I didn't receive anything at yahoo.FR,
maybe you emailed me @yahoo.COM ?

please PM me or use KVR's email function instead,
there might be something wrong with my Yahoo mail,
some emails from certain webclients or ISPs never make it to my inbox
for some reason ...
but KVR's email function works fine ...

I hope to read from you soon :hyper:

I haven't used Fauna in any of my records yet because I still heven't donated for it, so it wouldn't be fair. However, I did prepare some presets to use when I'll finally manage to spare a few bucks for you. They are mostly horror sounds - among others, I got the most terrifying (to me, at least) ghostly human voice from the other side I've ever heard from any instrument.
So yeah, to me it'd be about scary sounds and scary effects, I think it is extremely effective for that.

i think it's fair to meet needs as best as one can. why be penalised because you don't get paid enough?

Because otherwise it'd fall onto somebody else's shoulders, and that wouldn't be fair ;-)

(Thanks for the thought, though!)

not to peeve the commercial community with my alternate view, my economic form is a function of necessity, not personal choice. note that none of my vst have copy protection. i appreciate the support from those who can afford to support me..

It's almost six in the morning over here and my brain is very fuzzy, but I believe we had a misunderstanding? Or maybe I'm just falling asleep...

how can i say this without getting banned?

i think capitalism is oppressive. my life, and my internet connection are furnished by it, but i don't have to propogate it.

i am a proponent of consideration, not arbitrary order.

I still don't understand if you misunderstood my post or not... :?

Anyway, I, too, am against a system based on money - throughout my life I've always used trade (be it barter, services offered in return, anything that didn't involve money) whenever possible...

Personally, more often than not I use your modeling plugins more as sound design tools to create stuff that will be processed further. I could definitely see a use for an expanded version of fauna, though if possible I would still like to be able to use it as a plugin, just because it would make certain things easier (for me at least)- even if it did use too much cpu for actual use in a composition with other plugins.

As for specifics: I've used oscine tract and fauna in a few musical compositions and sound design projects, though only once for an actual synth line. Other times I've used them to feed convolution effects, together with other sounds, to add an organic element of a "can't put my finger on it" quality. They also make good fodder for FSU/glitch effects, again for creating sounds that are hard to place.

I'm usually more than willing to spend lots of time patching with these kinds of things, since the end result is usually well worth it. I don't load up fauna expecting to be able to create a sound as quickly as I would be able to program a bass patch on a VA. :)
